إِذا اِعتَذَرَ الجاني إِليَّ عَذَرتُهُ

وَلا سِيَّما إِن لَم يَكُن قَد تَعَمَّدا

وَلا سِيَّما إِن لَم يَكُن قَد تَعَمَّدا

If the offender apologizes to me, I forgive him—

When the wrongdoer apologizes to me, I pardon him,

and especially if he did not act deliberately.

فَمَن عاتَبَ الجُهّالَ أَتعَبَ نَفسَهُ

فَمَن عاتَبَ الجُهّالَ أَتعَبَ نَفسَهُ

وَمَن لامَ مَن لا يَعرِفُ اللَومَ أَفسَدا

وَمَن لامَ مَن لا يَعرِفُ اللَومَ أَفسَدا

For whoever reproaches fools only exhausts himself,

For whoever reproaches the ignorant wearies himself,

and whoever blames one who does not understand reproach only makes matters worse.

and whoever blames one who does not understand blame does harm.
