أَراكَI see you اليَومَtoday ليmine وَغَداًand tomorrow لِغَيريfor someone other than me
وَبَعدَand after غَدٍtomorrow لِأَقرَبِناfor the closest of us إِلَيكاto you
I see you mine today, and another's tomorrow,
I see you with me today, and tomorrow with another,
And the day after tomorrow, belonging to the one of us closest to you.
And the day after tomorrow with the one closest to you.
إِذاwhen أَحبَبتَyou love ذاthis one فارَقتَyou part from هَذاthis one
كَأَنَّas though فِراقَهُparting from him حَتمٌa binding obligation عَلَيكاupon you
When you love this one, you forsake that one,
If you love one, you leave another,
As though parting from him were binding upon you.
As if parting with him is inevitable for you.
فَأَقدَمُهُمso the oldest of them أَخَسُّهُمُthe basest of them جَميعاًall
وَأَحدَثُهُمand the newest of them أَحَبُّهُمُthe dearest of them إِلَيكاto you
So the oldest of them is the basest of them all,
So the one you've known the longest you value the least,
And the newest of them is the dearest to you.
And the newest is the most beloved to you.
وَكُلُّهُمُand every one of them وَإِنand even if طَرمَذتَyou made empty boasts فيهِمُabout them
سَتَترُكُهُyou will abandon him وَشيكاًsoon فيin يَدَيكاyour two hands
And every one of them, even if you boast about them,
And though you flutter amongst them,
You will soon abandon, in your two hands.
You will soon leave each one in your hands.
