رَأَيتُI saw السُهَيلَينِthe two Suhayls اِستوىwas equal الجودُgenerosity فيهِماin both of them
رَأَيتُ السُهَيلَينِ اِستوى الجودُ فيهِما
عَلىdespite بُعدِthe distance of ذاthis one مِنfrom ذاكَthat one فيin حُكمِthe judgment of حاكِمِa judge
عَلى بُعدِ ذا مِن ذاكَ في حُكمِ حاكِمِ
I found the two Suhayls alike in the generosity within them,
I found the two Suhayls equal in generosity,
though, in a judge’s reckoning, this one stands far from that.
despite the distance between one and the other, in a judge’s judgment.
سُهيلُSuhayl بنُson of عُثمانٍUthman يَجودُis generous بِمالِهِwith his wealth
سُهيلُ بنُ عُثمانٍ يَجودُ بِمالِهِ
كَماjust as جادَwas generous بِالوَجعاwith the sore backside سُهيلُSuhayl بنُson of سالِمِSalim
كَما جادَ بِالوَجعا سُهيلُ بنُ سالِمِ
Suhayl ibn Uthman is generous with his wealth,
Suhayl ibn Uthman is generous with his wealth,
just as Suhayl ibn Salim was prodigal with lives.
just as Suhayl ibn Salim was generous with his sore backside.
