أَخشىI fear عَلَيكِfor you مِنَfrom among الجاراتِthe neighboring women حاسِدَةًan envious woman
أَوor سَهمَan arrow غَيرانِa jealous man يَرمينيhe shoots at me وَيَرميكِand shoots at you
I fear for you an envious woman among the neighbors,
I fear for you the envious neighbors
Or a jealous man's arrow, which he shoots at me and you.
Or the arrow of a jealous one that strikes me and strikes you
لَولاwere it not for الرَقيباتُthe watchful women إِذwhen وَدَّعتِyou bade farewell غادِيَةًdeparting in the morning
قَبَّلتُI kissed فاكِyour mouth وَقُلتُand I said النَفسُthe soul تَفديكِransoms you
Had it not been for the watchful women when you bade farewell, leaving in the morning,
If not for the watchful eyes when you left
I would have kissed your mouth and said, 'My soul is your ransom.'
I would have kissed your mouth and said my soul ransoms you
ياO أَطيبَsweetest الناسِthe people ريقاًin saliva غَيرَnot مُختَبَرٍtried
إِلّاexcept شَهادَةَthe testimony أَطرافِthe tips المَساويكِthe tooth-cleaning sticks
O you whose saliva is sweetest of all, though untried,
O the most fragrant of people without being tested
Except through the testimony of the tips of tooth-cleaning sticks.
Except for the testimony of the edges of the pillows
قَدindeed زُرتِناyou visited us مَرَّةًonce فيin الدَهرِall time وَاحِدَةًsingle
عوديreturn وَلاand do not تَجعَليهاmake it بَيضَةَan egg الديكِof the rooster
You have visited us only once in all time;
You visited us once in this lifetime
Return, and do not make it a rooster's egg.
Return and do not make it like the crowing of the rooster
ياO رَحمَةَmercy اللَهِof God حُلّيdwell فيin مَنازِلِناour homes
حَسبيenough for me بِرائِحَةِwith the scent الفِردَوسِof Paradise مِنfrom فيكِyour mouth
O mercy of God, dwell in our homes.
O God's mercy, reside in our homes
The scent of Paradise from your mouth is enough for me.
It suffices me the scent of Paradise from you
إِنَّindeed الَّذيthat which راحَwent away مَغبوطاًenvied بِنِعمَتِهِfor its good fortune
كَفٌّa hand تَمَسُّكِtouches you أَوor كَفٌّa hand تُعاطيكِpasses something to you
Indeed, what departs envied for its good fortune
Indeed the one who left fortunate with his blessing
Is a hand that touches you, or a hand that passes something to you.
Is a palm that touches you or a palm that gives to you
وَلَوand if وَهَبتِyou granted لَناto us يَوماًa day نَعيشُwe live بِهِby it
أَحيَيتِyou revived نَفساًa soul وَكانَتand it was مِنamong مَساعيكِyour good deeds
And if you granted us a day to live on,
And if you gifted us a day to live in
You would revive a soul, and that would be among your good deeds.
You would revive a soul and it would be from your efforts
