وَشَخصٍand a figure طَيِّبِfragrant الأَرداthe sleeves (word continues)
وَشَخصٍ طَيِّبِ الأَردا
نِ(completes “the sleeves”) لاnot تَعرِفُyou know أَمثالَهpeople like him
نِ لا تَعرِفُ أَمثالَه
And a figure with fragrant sleeves,
whose like you do not know.
بَكىwept جوعاًfrom hunger وِشاحاهُhis two sashes
بَكى جوعاً وِشاحاهُ
وَقَدand indeed أَشبَعَhe sated خَلخالَهhis anklet
وَقَد أَشبَعَ خَلخالَه
His two sashes wept from hunger,
though he had sated his anklet.
أَتاناhe came to us يَحمِلُcarrying الشَوقَlonging
أَتانا يَحمِلُ الشَوقَ
وَماand not يَحمِلُhe carries أَوصالَهhis limbs
وَما يَحمِلُ أَوصالَه
He came to us bearing longing,
yet could not bear his own limbs.
قَتَلتُI killed السِرَّthe secret كِتماناًby concealment
قَتَلتُ السِرَّ كِتماناً
وَقَتلُand killing السرِّthe secret أَبقىmore lasting لَهfor it
وَقَتلُ السرِّ أَبقى لَه
I killed the secret by concealing it,
and killing a secret better preserves it.
