وَلَيسَand there is no عِنديin me لَكِtoward you تَغييرُchange
You have grown distant from me and changed toward me,
You went far from me, so you changed for me
yet I have not changed toward you.
And I have no change for you
فَجَدِّديso renew ماwhat رَثَّhas grown threadbare مِنof وَصلِناour bond
وَكُلُّand every ذَنبٍfault لَكof yours مَغفورُforgiven
So renew what has grown threadbare in our bond,
Renew what has worn from our connection
and every fault of yours is forgiven.
And every sin is forgiven for you

I soothe my soul by concealing what
I comfort myself by concealing what
the caravan has spread about your betrayal.
Has flowed through it from your betrayal, the lame
وَعدُكِyour promise ياO سَيِّدَتيmy lady غَرَّنيdeceived me
مِنكِabout you وَمَنand whoever يَعشَقloves مَغرورُdeceived
Your promise, my lady, deceived me
Your promise, my lady, deceived me
about you—and whoever loves is deceived.
From you, and who falls in love, deluded

قالَsays خَليليmy dear friend أَنتَyou مَهجورُforsaken
Knowing my own plight saddens me when
It saddens me, my knowledge of myself, when
my dear friend says, "You are forsaken."
My friend says you are abandoned
ياah لَيتَwould that مَنthe one who زَيَّنَmade seem fair هَذاthis لَهاto her

Ah, would that the one who made this seem fair to her
Oh, if only whoever adorned this for her
had been wronged by fate in our favor.
Our fates intertwined in it
ساقيcupbearer النَدامىthe drinking companions سَقهاpour it صاحِبيmy friend
فَإِنَّنيfor indeed I وَيحَكَwoe to you مَغدورُbetrayed
Cupbearer to the drinking companions, pour it, my friend,
The cupbearer of regrets gave it to my companion
for I have been betrayed—woe to you!
For I, by God, am wounded
أَأَشرَبُshall I drink الخَمرَwine عَلىover هَجرِهاher forsaking me
إِنّيindeed I إِذاًthen بِالهَجرِat being forsaken مَسرورُglad
Shall I drink wine over her forsaking me?
Shall I drink wine over her estrangement
Then I would indeed be glad to be forsaken.
I then would be happy with estrangement
