أُكَذِّبُI disbelieve طَرفيmy sight عَنكِconcerning you فيin كُلِّall ماthat which أَرىI see
وَأُسمِعand I make hear أُذنيmy ear مِنكِfrom you ماwhat لَيسَnot تَسمَعُit hears
I disbelieve my eyes in everything I see of you,
And make my ear hear from you what it does not hear.
وَلَمand did not أَسكُنِI dwell in الأَرضَthe land الَّتيwhich تَسكُنينَهاyou inhabit it
لِكَيso that لاnot يَقولواthey say صابِرٌpatient لَيسَnot يَجزَعُhe grieves
And I have not dwelt in the land where you dwell,
Lest they say, 'He is patient; he does not grieve.'
فَلاso neither كَبِديmy liver تَبلىwastes away وَلاnor لَكِyou have رَحمَةٌmercy
وَلاnor عَنكِaway from you إِقصارٌdesisting وَلاnor فيكِin you مَطمَعُhope
So my liver does not waste away, and you have no mercy;
And there is no turning away from you, nor any hope of winning you.
لَقيتُI encountered أُموراًthings فيكِbecause of you لَمdid not أَلقَI encounter مِثلَهاtheir like
وَأَعظَمُand greater مِنهاthan them مِنكِfrom you ماwhat أَتَوَقَّعُI expect
Because of you I have faced things whose like I have never known,
And greater than these is what I expect from you.
فَلاso do not تَسأَلينيyou ask me فيin هَواكِlove for you زِيادَةًan increase
فَأَيسَرهُfor its lightest measure يُجزيsuffices وَأَدناهُand its least يُقنِعُsatisfies
So do not ask me for any increase in my love for you,
For its lightest measure suffices, and its least satisfies.
