فَإِن يَكُ جدُّ القَومِ فِهر بنَ مالِكٍ

فَإِن يَكُ جدُّ القَومِ فِهر بنَ مالِكٍ

فَحَسبِي فَخراً فَخرُ بَكرِ بنِ وائِلِ

فَحَسبِي فَخراً فَخرُ بَكرِ بنِ وائِلِ

For if the people's forefather is Fihr ibn Malik,

If the tribe take pride in Ferhir son of Malik

then the glory of Bakr ibn Wa'il is pride enough for me.

Then my pride lies in Bakr son of Waa'il

وَلَكِنَّهُم فازوا بِإِرثِ أَبيهِمُ

وَلَكِنَّهُم فازوا بِإِرثِ أَبيهِمُ

وَكُنّا عَلى أَمرٍ مِنَ الأَمرِ باطِلِ

وَكُنّا عَلى أَمرٍ مِنَ الأَمرِ باطِلِ

But they prevailed through their father's inheritance,

But they attained their father’s inheritance

while our position in the matter was unfounded.
