لأني لا أرى غيري أراكَ

حملتُ إليكَ ما أخفي فهامتْ

I carried to you what I hide, and off wandered

My distances to the farthest reaches of your love.

Understood my distances to your deepest love

كأنكَ حين تشربُ من دناني

تصب الخمرُ في روحي لظاكَ

تصب الخمرُ في روحي لظاكَ

As though, when you drink from my wine jars,

It's as if when you drink from my vines

The wine pours your blaze into my soul.

فأرفعُ ما ترسبَ في دمائي

إلى ما قد ترسبَ في دماكَ

إلى ما قد ترسبَ في دماكَ

So I raise what has settled in my blood

To what has already settled in your blood.

To what settled in your blood

أنا سرّ خفيٌ لا يراني

أنا سرّ خفيٌ لا يراني

لأني لا أرى غيري – سواكَ

لأني لا أرى غيري – سواكَ

I am a hidden secret; no one sees me,

I'm a hidden secret that none sees

Because I see no one but myself—except you.

Because I see none but you

فخذْ ما شئتَ من شكّي يقينا

فخذْ ما شئتَ من شكّي يقينا

ومن صمتي حياة أو هلاكا

ومن صمتي حياة أو هلاكا

So take from my doubt whatever certainty you wish,

So take what you wish of my doubt as truth

And from my silence, life or death.

And from my silence, life or demise

أنا في وحدتي كالماء وحدي

وأنتَ هناكَ في قاعي هناكَ

And its longing was a violation within me,

And its yearning in me a violation

تركتُ الروح تسري في مداها

لأدركَها إذا القلبُ احتواكَ

لأدركَها إذا القلبُ احتواكَ

I let the soul flow through its expanse,

I let the soul flow in its extent

To grasp it when the heart embraced you.

To attain it if the heart contains you

أنا ما كنتُ إلا كي أراني

أنا ما كنتُ إلا كي أراني

وأعرفَني وإن ضلّتْ رؤاكَ

وأعرفَني وإن ضلّتْ رؤاكَ

I existed only so that I might see myself

I was nothing but to see myself

And know myself, even if your visions went astray.

And know myself even if your vision strayed

أمزقُ عن رؤى روحي ضبابا

أمزقُ عن رؤى روحي ضبابا

يُحوكُ على مسافاتي شباكا

يُحوكُ على مسافاتي شباكا

I tear away from my soul’s visions a mist

I tear away the mist from my soul's visions

That weaves nets across my distances,

That hides you across my distances

لأكشفَ ما تراكم في ضلالي

لأكشفَ ما تراكم في ضلالي

وأعرفَ ما اعترانيَ واعتراكَ

وأعرفَ ما اعترانيَ واعتراكَ

To uncover what has accumulated in my delusion

To reveal what accumulated in my misguidance

And know what befell me and befell you.

And know what afflicted me and you

أحبكَ فلتكنْ منّي لأنّي

أحبكَ فلتكنْ منّي لأنّي

وإن جاوزتَ آفاقي – صداكَ

وإن جاوزتَ آفاقي – صداكَ

I love you; so be of me, for I,

I love you so be from me because I am

Even if you have passed beyond my horizons, am your echo.

And if you exceeded my horizons - your echo

بلغتُ الصمتَ حين أردتَ قتلي

بلغتُ الصمتَ حين أردتَ قتلي

وسهمُكَ كنتَ تشهدُ إذْ رماكَ

وسهمُكَ كنتَ تشهدُ إذْ رماكَ

I reached silence when you wished to kill me,

I reached silence when you wanted my murder

And your arrow—you watched as it struck you.

And your arrow you witnessed as you threw

رأيتُك والهوى أمسى هلالا

رأيتُك والهوى أمسى هلالا

وكنتَ الريحَ تنصبُ لي شراكا

وكنتَ الريحَ تنصبُ لي شراكا

I saw you, and love had become a crescent,

I saw you and passion became a crescent

And you were the wind, setting snares for me.

And you were the wind, setting up snares for me

ولكني لأني لستُ غيري

ولكني لأني لستُ غيري

سأبقى في حمى صمتي ملاكا

سأبقى في حمى صمتي ملاكا

But I, because I am no one but myself,

But because I'm none but myself

Will remain an angel in the sanctuary of my silence.

I'll remain in the protection of my silence an angel

وأمضي كي أرى أسبابَ كوني

وأمضي كي أرى أسبابَ كوني

وتمضي دون حبيَ في عماكَ

وتمضي دون حبيَ في عماكَ

And I go on, to see the reasons for my being,

And I pass to see the reasons for my being

And you go on without my love, in your blindness.

أعلمكَ الهوى لا كي تراني

أعلمكَ الهوى لا كي تراني

ولكن كي ترى ما في حماكَ

ولكن كي ترى ما في حماكَ

I teach you love, not so that you may see me,

I teach you passion not to see me

But so that you may see what is in your sanctuary.

But so you may see what is in your frenzy

أنا الرؤيا وأنتَ هنا ضلالي

أنا الرؤيا وأنتَ هنا ضلالي

أنا أهديكَ إنْ ضلّتْ خطاكَ

أنا أهديكَ إنْ ضلّتْ خطاكَ

I am the vision, and here you are my delusion.

I'm the vision and you are my misguidance here

I guide you if your footsteps go astray.

I guide you if your steps strayed

فكن ظلي لتبلغَ سابحاتي

فكن ظلي لتبلغَ سابحاتي

وكن سرّي لتبلغَ مبتغاكَ

وكن سرّي لتبلغَ مبتغاكَ

So be my shadow, to reach my floating ones,

So be my shadow to attain my swims

And be my secret, to reach your desire.

And be my secret to attain your goals

وكن نفسي لتعرفَني تماما

وكن نفسي لتعرفَني تماما

وكن روحي لتفنى كي أراكَ

وكن روحي لتفنى كي أراكَ

And be my self, to know me completely.

And be my soul to fully know me

And be my soul, to vanish so that I may see you.

And be my spirit to fade for me to see you
