تطوفُ بساحاتِ القُلُوبِ عجائبٌ

تطوفُ بساحاتِ القُلُوبِ عجائبٌ

فللَّه مِنْ أَسرارِ تلك العَجائبِ

فللَّه مِنْ أَسرارِ تلك العَجائبِ

Wonders roam through the courtyards of hearts;

Wonders roam the domains of hearts,

so to God belong the secrets of those wonders!

By God, the secrets of those wonders!

يقومُ على بُسطِ الخَفا مثل حاضِرٍ

يقومُ على بُسطِ الخَفا مثل حاضِرٍ

رَفيعُ التَّدلِّي وهو أَبعَدُ غائِبِ

رَفيعُ التَّدلِّي وهو أَبعَدُ غائِبِ

He stands upon the carpets of concealment, like one present,

He stands upon the carpets of the unseen as if present,

exalted in his descent, though he is the most distant of the absent.

Lofty is his connection, though most absent.

ويفعَلُ ما لا يفعلُ الحاضِرُ الذي

ويفعَلُ ما لا يفعلُ الحاضِرُ الذي

رَمَنْهُ العُلى عن قُعْسِ تلك المَراتِبِ

رَمَنْهُ العُلى عن قُعْسِ تلك المَراتِبِ

And he does what the present one does not do,

He does what the present one does not do,

whom the heights cast away from the unassailable heights of those stations.

Whom the Most High has hindered from those ranks’ narrow passes.

كأنَّ شُؤُن الغيبِ حَصراً جسامُها

كأنَّ شُؤُن الغيبِ حَصراً جسامُها

لآلِ عليٍّ من لؤيٍّ ابنِ غالِبِ

لآلِ عليٍّ من لؤيٍّ ابنِ غالِبِ

As though the great affairs of the unseen belonged exclusively

As if the affairs of the unseen were dedicated to

to Ali's house, of Lu'ayy, son of Ghalib.

The Household of Ali, of the visions of the son of Galib.

وفي الغُرِّ من آلِ الحُسينِ فُنونُها

وفي الغُرِّ من آلِ الحُسينِ فُنونُها

ومنصِبُهُمْ فيها أَعزُّ المَناصِبِ

ومنصِبُهُمْ فيها أَعزُّ المَناصِبِ

And their varied forms dwell in the radiant ones of Husayn's house,

And in the Ghorr, from the Household of al-Husayn, are their arts,

and their station therein is the most honored of stations.

And their position among them is the most honorable of positions.

ومنهُمْ بأَبناءِ الرِّفاعِيِّ أُودِعَتْ

ومنهُمْ بأَبناءِ الرِّفاعِيِّ أُودِعَتْ

طرائقُها مَحفوفةً بالمواهِبِ

طرائقُها مَحفوفةً بالمواهِبِ

And among them, to al-Rifa'i's sons were entrusted

Through them, by the sons of al-Rifa‘i,

their paths, surrounded by gifts.

Its ways were entrusted, surrounded by gifts.

هم النَّفَرُ الزُّهرُ الذين تسلَّقوا

هم النَّفَرُ الزُّهرُ الذين تسلَّقوا

بهمَّتِهِمْ هاماتِ زُهْرِ الكواكِبِ

بهمَّتِهِمْ هاماتِ زُهْرِ الكواكِبِ

They are the radiant company who climbed,

They are the select elite, who have climbed

by their resolve, the summits of the shining stars.

With their resolve the summits of the stars’ blossoms.

وفيهم بنو الصَّيَّادِ أقمارُ بيتِهم

وفيهم بنو الصَّيَّادِ أقمارُ بيتِهم

ففي الشَّرقِ هم أَعيانُها والمَغارِبِ

ففي الشَّرقِ هم أَعيانُها والمَغارِبِ

And among them are al-Sayyad's sons, the moons of their house;

And among them are the Banu al-Sayyad, moons of their house,

so in the East and the western lands, they are its notables.

They are its notables in the East and the West.

أمَّا هو جدُّهمْ طِلْسَمُ العَبا

أمَّا هو جدُّهمْ طِلْسَمُ العَبا

وكَنزُ فُهومٍ صَيِّناتِ المَضارِبِ

وكَنزُ فُهومٍ صَيِّناتِ المَضارِبِ

As for their forefather, he is the talisman of the cloak,

As for him, their grandfather is the talisman of glory,

and a treasure of insights whose encampments are well guarded.

And treasure of understandings, the mines of largesse.

إِمامٌ على مِضْمارِ آثارِ جدِّه

إِمامٌ على مِضْمارِ آثارِ جدِّه

بشقِّ الغُبارِ اخْتارَ أَعلى المَذاهِبِ

بشقِّ الغُبارِ اخْتارَ أَعلى المَذاهِبِ

An imam on the racecourse of his forefather's footsteps,

An imam in the racecourse of his grandfather’s tracks,

cleaving the dust, he chose the loftiest paths.

Cleaving the clouds of dust, he chose the highest creed.

طوَى قلبُهُ آياتِ علمٍ خفيَّةً

طوَى قلبُهُ آياتِ علمٍ خفيَّةً

كثيرةَ فضلٍ أَعجزَتْ كلَّ حاسِبِ

كثيرةَ فضلٍ أَعجزَتْ كلَّ حاسِبِ

His heart enfolded hidden signs of knowledge,

His heart folded the arcane verses of knowledge,

abounding in excellence, which baffled every reckoner.

Abundant in merit, that exhausted every auditor.

أَعاجِمُ أهلِ الحالِ طافَتْ ببابِهِ

أَعاجِمُ أهلِ الحالِ طافَتْ ببابِهِ

وفاضَتْ أَيادي برِّهِ للأَعارِبِ

وفاضَتْ أَيادي برِّهِ للأَعارِبِ

Non-Arabs among the people of spiritual states circled his door,

The non-Arabs of the folk circled his door,

and the favors of his benevolence overflowed to the Arabs.

And the outpouring of his goodness overflowed to non-Arabs.

وسحَّ على الأَقوامِ وابِلُ فيضِهِ

وسحَّ على الأَقوامِ وابِلُ فيضِهِ

أَباعدِهِمْ في نهجِهِمْ والأقارِبِ

أَباعدِهِمْ في نهجِهِمْ والأقارِبِ

And the downpour of his bounty fell upon the peoples,

And he poured upon the people torrents of his overflowing rain,

the distant among them in their path, and those near.

Whether far or near in their paths.

مَكِينٌ أَمينٌ صادِقُ الوعدِ سيِّدٌ

مَكِينٌ أَمينٌ صادِقُ الوعدِ سيِّدٌ

جليلٌ عَظيمُ الشَّأنِ عذبُ المَشارِبِ

جليلٌ عَظيمُ الشَّأنِ عذبُ المَشارِبِ

Firmly established, trustworthy, true to his promise—a master,

Secure, trusted, truthful in his promise, a lord

majestic, great in stature, with sweet wellsprings.

Great and mighty in rank, sweet to partake.

أَتيناهُ نستَسْقي نَوالَ جَنابِهِ

أَتيناهُ نستَسْقي نَوالَ جَنابِهِ

ففاضَ وعمَّ الفيضُ كُلَّ الجَوانِبِ

ففاضَ وعمَّ الفيضُ كُلَّ الجَوانِبِ

We came to him, seeking rain from the bounty of his presence;

We came to him to beg a drink from his fresh water,

so it overflowed, and the outpouring reached every side.

So it gushed forth, and its abundance encompassed all sides.
