هذي العَزيمةُ لمَّا طارَ طائِرُها

هذي العَزيمةُ لمَّا طارَ طائِرُها

خلَّى بِثَوْرتِه كلَّ الوُجوداتِ

خلَّى بِثَوْرتِه كلَّ الوُجوداتِ

This resolve, when its bird took flight,

When her resolve took flight

left all forms of existence behind in its surge.

It left behind a trail of awakened souls

وراحَ والهِمَّةُ العلياءُ تدْفَعُهُ

وراحَ والهِمَّةُ العلياءُ تدْفَعُهُ

عن الوُجودِ إلى ربِّ السَّمواتِ

عن الوُجودِ إلى ربِّ السَّمواتِ

And it went forth, with lofty aspiration driving it

On it went, lofty aspiration propelling it

away from existence toward the Lord of the heavens.

From existence towards the Lord of the heavens

كُلُّ الحوادثِ لو حقَّقْتَها عدمٌ

كُلُّ الحوادثِ لو حقَّقْتَها عدمٌ

فاسْتحكِمِ الأمرَ في نفْيٍ وإثْباتِ

فاسْتحكِمِ الأمرَ في نفْيٍ وإثْباتِ

All contingent things, if you discern their reality, are nothingness.

If you deny all events their being

So master the matter of negation and affirmation.

Then grasp the matter firmly, denying and affirming

وخُذْ لِقلبِكَ دَرْباً لا تُغالُ بهِ

وخُذْ لِقلبِكَ دَرْباً لا تُغالُ بهِ

وارفعَ إلى الذَّوقِ أسرارَ الإشاراتِ

وارفعَ إلى الذَّوقِ أسرارَ الإشاراتِ

And take for your heart a path on which you will not be waylaid.

Take for your heart a path on which you'll not go astray

And raise the secrets of the allusions to spiritual tasting.

And raise to discernment the mysteries of hints

وكنْ معَ اللهِ لا تبغِ السِّوى بدلاً

وكنْ معَ اللهِ لا تبغِ السِّوى بدلاً

بِعَبرةٍ أصلحَتْ سُقْمَ العِباراتِ

بِعَبرةٍ أصلحَتْ سُقْمَ العِباراتِ

And be with God; seek no other as a substitute,

With God be, seek no other in His stead

with a tear that healed the sickness of words.

With a moral that cured the sickness of expressions

إشارةٌ تَجْتلي بُشرى إِذا ثَبتتْ

إشارةٌ تَجْتلي بُشرى إِذا ثَبتتْ

إنَّ الإشاراتِ أبوابُ البشاراتِ

إنَّ الإشاراتِ أبوابُ البشاراتِ

An allusion reveals glad tidings when it holds true.

A hint that gives glad tidings, when understood

Indeed, allusions are the gates of glad tidings.

Hints are indeed the gates to good news
