طريقَتُنا للخارِقاتِ وسيلَةٌ

طريقَتُنا للخارِقاتِ وسيلَةٌ

وللكفِّ عن كلِّ الوُجوداتِ سِلَّمُ

وللكفِّ عن كلِّ الوُجوداتِ سِلَّمُ

Our way is a means to miraculous wonders,

And a ladder to disengagement from all created existence.

طَريقَتُنَا من أَخلصَ القلبَ ضمنَها

طَريقَتُنَا من أَخلصَ القلبَ ضمنَها

غَدا بضمانِ اللهِ يُحْيى ويُكرَمُ

غَدا بضمانِ اللهِ يُحْيى ويُكرَمُ

Our way: whoever makes his heart sincere within it

Is given life and honor under God's guarantee.

طَريقَتُنَا من راحَ يحكِمُ حكمَها

طَريقَتُنَا من راحَ يحكِمُ حكمَها

بصدْقٍ على أَهلِ القُلُوبِ يُحكَّمُ

بصدْقٍ على أَهلِ القُلُوبِ يُحكَّمُ

Our way: whoever sets about upholding its rule

With sincerity is given authority over the people of hearts.

طَريقَتُنَا تُنجي الفُؤادَ من الغَوى

طَريقَتُنَا تُنجي الفُؤادَ من الغَوى

وتحْفَظُهُ من زَيْغِهِ وتُسَلِّمُ

وتحْفَظُهُ من زَيْغِهِ وتُسَلِّمُ

Our way saves the heart from error,

And guards it from its straying and keeps it safe.

طَريقَتُنَا مأْمونَةُ الحالِ سُنَّةٌ

طَريقَتُنَا مأْمونَةُ الحالِ سُنَّةٌ

ومضمونُها في كلِّ نَقْلٍ مُسَلَّمُ

ومضمونُها في كلِّ نَقْلٍ مُسَلَّمُ

Our way is a prophetic practice, secure in its state,

And its substance is accepted in every transmitted account.

طَرِيقَتُنَا حالُ النَّبيِّ وطوْرُهُ

طَرِيقَتُنَا حالُ النَّبيِّ وطوْرُهُ

وعن سِرِّهِ للمارِقينَ تُتَرْجمُ

وعن سِرِّهِ للمارِقينَ تُتَرْجمُ

Our way is the Prophet's state and manner,

And conveys his secret to the renegades.

طَرِيقَتُنَا صِدقٌ وزُهدٌ ورَأفَةٌ

طَرِيقَتُنَا صِدقٌ وزُهدٌ ورَأفَةٌ

وذُلٌّ إلى المولى ونهجٌ مُقَوَّمُ

وذُلٌّ إلى المولى ونهجٌ مُقَوَّمُ

Our way is truthfulness, renunciation, and compassion,

And humility before the Lord, and an upright course.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن لا يرَى المرءُ نفسَهُ

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن لا يرَى المرءُ نفسَهُ

وفيها أخيرُ الرَّكبِ فهو المُقَدَّمُ

وفيها أخيرُ الرَّكبِ فهو المُقَدَّمُ

Our way is that a person should not see his own self,

And in it, the last of the caravan is brought to the fore.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن تُصلِحَ العبدَ صُحْبَةٌ

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن تُصلِحَ العبدَ صُحْبَةٌ

فنحنُ سُكوتٌ والهوَى يتكلَّمُ

فنحنُ سُكوتٌ والهوَى يتكلَّمُ

Our way is that companionship should reform the servant;

For we are silent, while love speaks.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن يُجعَلَ الشَّرعُ سُلَّماً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن يُجعَلَ الشَّرعُ سُلَّماً

أَجل وبهِ السُّلاَّكُ تَرقى وتعظُمُ

أَجل وبهِ السُّلاَّكُ تَرقى وتعظُمُ

Our way is to make the sacred law a ladder;

Yes, through it the wayfarers ascend and grow great.

طَرِيقَتُنَا قلبٌ سَليمٌ ونيَّةٌ

طَرِيقَتُنَا قلبٌ سَليمٌ ونيَّةٌ

مُطَهَّرَةٌ أنْفَ المُآمِلِ تُرغِمُ

مُطَهَّرَةٌ أنْفَ المُآمِلِ تُرغِمُ

Our way is a sound heart and an intention

Purified, rubbing the hopeful one's nose in dust.

طَرِيقَتُنَا ذِكرٌ بلا عددٌ على

طَرِيقَتُنَا ذِكرٌ بلا عددٌ على

موارِدِ أَنفاسٍ تمُرُّ وتُنْظَمُ

موارِدِ أَنفاسٍ تمُرُّ وتُنْظَمُ

Our way is remembrance without number, at

The wellsprings of breaths that pass and are strung together.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن لا نرَى الغيرَ فاعِلاً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن لا نرَى الغيرَ فاعِلاً

سوى أنَّهُ الرَّحمنُ يُعطي ويُحْرِمُ

سوى أنَّهُ الرَّحمنُ يُعطي ويُحْرِمُ

Our way is to see no other agent

Than Him, the All-Merciful, who gives and withholds.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن تشهَدَ اللهَ حاكِماً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن تشهَدَ اللهَ حاكِماً

له الأَمرُ في الأَمْرَيْنِ يُقضي ويَرْحَمُ

له الأَمرُ في الأَمْرَيْنِ يُقضي ويَرْحَمُ

Our way is that you witness God as ruler;

His is the command in both matters: He decrees and shows mercy.

طَرِيقَتُنَا حُبُّ النَّبيِّ وآلِهِ

طَرِيقَتُنَا حُبُّ النَّبيِّ وآلِهِ

وأَصحابِهِ والذِّكرُ للخير عنهُمُ

وأَصحابِهِ والذِّكرُ للخير عنهُمُ

Our way is love for the Prophet and his family,

And his Companions, and speaking of their goodness.

طَرِيقَتُنَا إعظامُ كلِّ مُقَرَّبٍ

طَرِيقَتُنَا إعظامُ كلِّ مُقَرَّبٍ

من القومِ لكنْ شيخُنا الفردُ أَعظَمُ

من القومِ لكنْ شيخُنا الفردُ أَعظَمُ

Our way is reverence for everyone brought near,

Among the people of the path; yet our peerless shaykh is greatest.

طَرِيقَتُنَا نهجُ الجُنَيْدِ تحقُّقاً

طَرِيقَتُنَا نهجُ الجُنَيْدِ تحقُّقاً

بمشرَبِهِ إِذْ ناكِثُ العهدِ يُقْصَمُ

بمشرَبِهِ إِذْ ناكِثُ العهدِ يُقْصَمُ

Our way is al-Junayd's path, truly realized

Through his spiritual fount; for the covenant-breaker is shattered.

طَرِيقَتُنَا ذوقٌ وشوقٌ وعبرَةٌ

طَرِيقَتُنَا ذوقٌ وشوقٌ وعبرَةٌ

وعبرَةُ عينٍ دمعُها كلُّهُ دَمُ

وعبرَةُ عينٍ دمعُها كلُّهُ دَمُ

Our way is tasting, longing, and taking heed,

And the weeping of an eye whose tears are all blood.

طَرِيقَتُنَا جِدٌّ وجُهدٌ ولوعَةٌ

طَرِيقَتُنَا جِدٌّ وجُهدٌ ولوعَةٌ

وخَلوَةُ صدقٍ خالِصٍ وتكتُّمُ

وخَلوَةُ صدقٍ خالِصٍ وتكتُّمُ

Our way is earnestness, striving, and anguish,

And seclusion in pure sincerity, and discretion.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن لا نرَى الشَّقَّ للعَصا

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن لا نرَى الشَّقَّ للعَصا

فإنَّ مُوالاةَ الجَماعَةِ ألْزَمُ

فإنَّ مُوالاةَ الجَماعَةِ ألْزَمُ

Our way is not to countenance splitting the staff of unity,

For loyalty to the community is more binding.

طَرِيقَتُنَا وُدٌّ لكلِّ مُوَحَّدٍ

طَرِيقَتُنَا وُدٌّ لكلِّ مُوَحَّدٍ

وأن نُسْدي إِحْساناً لمن هو مسلِمُ

وأن نُسْدي إِحْساناً لمن هو مسلِمُ

Our way is affection for every monotheist,

And to do good to whoever is a Muslim.

طَرِيقَتُنَا بالآدَميِّينَ رحمَةٌ

طَرِيقَتُنَا بالآدَميِّينَ رحمَةٌ

كما أمَرَ الهادي الرَّسولُ المُكَرَّمُ

كما أمَرَ الهادي الرَّسولُ المُكَرَّمُ

Our way is mercy toward humankind,

As the Guide, the honored Messenger, commanded.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن نشهَدَ الخلقَ كلُّهُمْ

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن نشهَدَ الخلقَ كلُّهُمْ

بخيرٍ وأنْ نَزوي الأَذِيَّةَ عنهُمُ

بخيرٍ وأنْ نَزوي الأَذِيَّةَ عنهُمُ

Our way is to regard all creatures

Favorably, and to keep harm away from them.

طَرِيقَتُنَا محوُ الرِّياءِ وطرحُهُ

طَرِيقَتُنَا محوُ الرِّياءِ وطرحُهُ

وحِفظُ نِظامَ الصِّدقِ إِذْ نتكلَّمُ

وحِفظُ نِظامَ الصِّدقِ إِذْ نتكلَّمُ

Our way is to erase ostentation and cast it away,

And maintain the discipline of truthfulness when we speak.

طَرِيقَتُنَا صَوْنُ الجَوارِحِ كلِّها

طَرِيقَتُنَا صَوْنُ الجَوارِحِ كلِّها

فإنَّ سؤالَ الحَشْرِ بالصَّوْنِ ملزِمُ

فإنَّ سؤالَ الحَشْرِ بالصَّوْنِ ملزِمُ

Our way is to guard every limb,

For the questioning at the Gathering makes such guarding obligatory.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنْ نجذِبَ القلبَ دائِماً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنْ نجذِبَ القلبَ دائِماً

إلى اللهِ بل في ذِكرِهِ نترنَّمُ

إلى اللهِ بل في ذِكرِهِ نترنَّمُ

Our way is always to draw the heart

To God; indeed, we chant His remembrance.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّا نُمِرُّ زَمانَنا

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّا نُمِرُّ زَمانَنا

ونحنُ على مهدِ التَّكتُّمِ قُوَّمُ

ونحنُ على مهدِ التَّكتُّمِ قُوَّمُ

Our way is to pass our time

While we stand watch over the cradle of concealment.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن نجعَلَ السِّرَّ رُقْعَةً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن نجعَلَ السِّرَّ رُقْعَةً

وفيها سُطورَ الصِّدقِ للهِ نَرقُمُ

وفيها سُطورَ الصِّدقِ للهِ نَرقُمُ

Our way is to make the inward secret a page,

And inscribe upon it lines of truthfulness for God.

طَرِيقَتُنَا دَومُ الهُيامِ تولُّهاً

طَرِيقَتُنَا دَومُ الهُيامِ تولُّهاً

وهل مُرْتَضى المحْبوبِ إِلاَّ المُهَيَّمُ

وهل مُرْتَضى المحْبوبِ إِلاَّ المُهَيَّمُ

Our way is lasting passion, in love-struck bewilderment;

And who pleases the Beloved but the one crazed with love?

طَرِيقَتُنَا وجهٌ مع النَّاسِ حاضِرٌ

طَرِيقَتُنَا وجهٌ مع النَّاسِ حاضِرٌ

وقلبٌ بذِكرِ اللهِ لا يتلَعْثَمُ

وقلبٌ بذِكرِ اللهِ لا يتلَعْثَمُ

Our way is a face present among people,

And a heart that never stammers in remembering God.

طَرِيقَتُنَا إعْظامُ شأْنِ محمَّدٍ

طَرِيقَتُنَا إعْظامُ شأْنِ محمَّدٍ

كما هوَ فهو الهاشِمِيُّ المُعظَّمُ

كما هوَ فهو الهاشِمِيُّ المُعظَّمُ

Our way is to exalt Muhammad's rank

As befits him, for he is the exalted Hashimite.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّا على كلِّ رَمشَةٍ

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّا على كلِّ رَمشَةٍ

نُصلِّي عليه نيَّةً ونُسلِّمُ

نُصلِّي عليه نيَّةً ونُسلِّمُ

Our way is that, with every blink,

We inwardly invoke blessings upon him and send him peace.

طَرِيقَتُنَا نهجُ الرِّفاعِيِّ أَحمدٍ

طَرِيقَتُنَا نهجُ الرِّفاعِيِّ أَحمدٍ

فمنهاجُهُ من جملَةِ القومِ أَقوَمُ

فمنهاجُهُ من جملَةِ القومِ أَقوَمُ

Our way is the path of Ahmad al-Rifa‘i;

For his course is the straightest among all the people of the path.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنْ نملأَ العينَ دمعَةً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنْ نملأَ العينَ دمعَةً

إِذِ النَّاسُ في فُرشِ البَطالَةِ نُوَّمُ

إِذِ النَّاسُ في فُرشِ البَطالَةِ نُوَّمُ

Our way is to fill the eye with tears

While people sleep in the beds of idleness.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أَنْ نُبْدِ في اللهِ شدَّةً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أَنْ نُبْدِ في اللهِ شدَّةً

ونُبغِضَ فيه من به الزَّيْغُ يُرسَمُ

ونُبغِضَ فيه من به الزَّيْغُ يُرسَمُ

Our way is to show firmness for God's sake,

And for His sake to hate whoever bears the mark of deviation.

طَرِيقَتُنَا نصرُ المُحِقِّ وغَوْثُهُ

طَرِيقَتُنَا نصرُ المُحِقِّ وغَوْثُهُ

وإِذْلالُ من للنَّاسِ يُؤذي ويظلِمُ

وإِذْلالُ من للنَّاسِ يُؤذي ويظلِمُ

Our way is to support and aid the one in the right,

And humble whoever harms and wrongs people.

طَرِيقَتُنَا إِكرامُ شيخٍ لسِنِّهِ

طَرِيقَتُنَا إِكرامُ شيخٍ لسِنِّهِ

ورحمةُ طفلٍ إنَّما الطفلُ يرحَمُ

ورحمةُ طفلٍ إنَّما الطفلُ يرحَمُ

Our way is to honor an elder for his age,

And show mercy to a child: a child is only to be shown mercy.

طَرِيقَتُنَا الإيثارُ والبذلُ دائِماً

طَرِيقَتُنَا الإيثارُ والبذلُ دائِماً

بلا ريبَةٍ واللهُ أَغنى وأَكرَمُ

بلا ريبَةٍ واللهُ أَغنى وأَكرَمُ

Our way is selflessness and constant giving,

Without misgiving; God is richer and more generous.

طَرِيقَتُنَا هجرُ الكَذوبِ وتركُهُ

طَرِيقَتُنَا هجرُ الكَذوبِ وتركُهُ

وحُبُّ صَدوقٍ هكذا القومُ أَلْزَموا

وحُبُّ صَدوقٍ هكذا القومُ أَلْزَموا

Our way is to forsake the habitual liar and leave him,

And love the truthful: thus the people of the path have enjoined.

طَرِيقَتُنَا غسلُ الفُؤادِ من الهَوَى

طَرِيقَتُنَا غسلُ الفُؤادِ من الهَوَى

ومن بعدِهِ وِفقاً له نتوسَّمُ

ومن بعدِهِ وِفقاً له نتوسَّمُ

Our way is to wash the heart of desire,

And thereafter, in accord with it, we discern.

طَرِيقَتُنَا رَدُّ الفِراسَةِ للَّذي

طَرِيقَتُنَا رَدُّ الفِراسَةِ للَّذي

به الشَّرْعُ يقضي في الأُمورِ ويُبْرِمُ

به الشَّرْعُ يقضي في الأُمورِ ويُبْرِمُ

Our way is to refer discernment back to that

By which the sacred law judges and settles affairs.

طَرِيقَتُنَا إن جاءَ بالصِّدقِ وارِدٌ

طَرِيقَتُنَا إن جاءَ بالصِّدقِ وارِدٌ

نحكِّمُهُ في أَمرِنا ونُسَلِّمُ

نحكِّمُهُ في أَمرِنا ونُسَلِّمُ

Our way: if an inspiration comes in truth,

We let it govern our affairs and submit.

طَرِيقَتُنَا التَّحكيمُ للنَّصِّ بالذي

طَرِيقَتُنَا التَّحكيمُ للنَّصِّ بالذي

به في الإشاراتِ الغَوامِضُ نُلْهَمُ

به في الإشاراتِ الغَوامِضُ نُلْهَمُ

Our way is to make the text the arbiter of

The mysteries we receive through inspiration in allusions.

طَرِيقَتُنَا من ربِّنا الأَخذُ بالرِّضا

طَرِيقَتُنَا من ربِّنا الأَخذُ بالرِّضا

يؤخِّرُ منَّا أَمرَنا أو يُقَدِّمُ

يؤخِّرُ منَّا أَمرَنا أو يُقَدِّمُ

Our way is to accept from our Lord with contentment,

Whether He holds our affair back from us or advances it.

طَرِيقَتُنَا التَّسليمُ للمُرشِدِ الذي

طَرِيقَتُنَا التَّسليمُ للمُرشِدِ الذي

لأَحْكامِهِ التَّسليمُ في السَّيرِ أَسلَمُ

لأَحْكامِهِ التَّسليمُ في السَّيرِ أَسلَمُ

Our way is submission to the guide whose

Rulings are safest to accept along the path.

طَرِيقَتُنَا إِعْزازُ من شادَ سُنَّةً

طَرِيقَتُنَا إِعْزازُ من شادَ سُنَّةً

بها رُكْنُ زَيْغٍ في البرِيَّةِ يُهدَمُ

بها رُكْنُ زَيْغٍ في البرِيَّةِ يُهدَمُ

Our way is to honor one who establishes a prophetic practice

By which a pillar of error among humankind is demolished.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن لا نقولَ بوحْدَةٍ

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن لا نقولَ بوحْدَةٍ

ولا بحُلولٍ والمُصيبَةُ أَعظَمُ

ولا بحُلولٍ والمُصيبَةُ أَعظَمُ

Our way is not to profess unity of being,

Nor divine indwelling—a greater calamity still.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن نحفَظَ الشَّرْعَ ظاهِراً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن نحفَظَ الشَّرْعَ ظاهِراً

وهذا هو السِّرُّ الخفِيُّ المُطَلْسَمُ

وهذا هو السِّرُّ الخفِيُّ المُطَلْسَمُ

Our way is to uphold the sacred law outwardly,

And this is the hidden, cryptic secret.

طَرِيقَتُنَا رَدُّ الشُّطوحاتِ كلِّها

طَرِيقَتُنَا رَدُّ الشُّطوحاتِ كلِّها

إذا لم يكنْ منها المُؤَوَّلُ يُفْهَمُ

إذا لم يكنْ منها المُؤَوَّلُ يُفْهَمُ

Our way is to reject all ecstatic utterances

If no interpretation of them can be understood.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن يأخُذَ القلبُ عبرَةً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن يأخُذَ القلبُ عبرَةً

ولو من هُبوبِ الرِّيحِ إِذْ يتنَسَّمُ

ولو من هُبوبِ الرِّيحِ إِذْ يتنَسَّمُ

Our way is for the heart to take a lesson,

Even from the wind's blowing, as it inhales the breeze.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن نتبَعَ النَّصَّ خُضَّعاً

طَرِيقَتُنَا أن نتبَعَ النَّصَّ خُضَّعاً

وإِن جاءَ طَيْشاً غيرُهُ لا نُسَلِّمُ

وإِن جاءَ طَيْشاً غيرُهُ لا نُسَلِّمُ

Our way is to follow the text in submission,

And if something else comes rashly, we do not assent.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّ الكَراماتِ لم تزلْ

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّ الكَراماتِ لم تزلْ

بأَيدي رِجالِ اللهِ تبدو وتنظَمُ

بأَيدي رِجالِ اللهِ تبدو وتنظَمُ

Our way holds that miraculous gifts have never ceased

To appear and be strung together at the hands of God's men.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّ الخَوارِقَ سَهْمُهُمْ

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّ الخَوارِقَ سَهْمُهُمْ

لمن كانَ حيًّا والذي ماتَ منهُمُ

لمن كانَ حيًّا والذي ماتَ منهُمُ

Our way holds that wonders are their allotted share,

For those among them who live and those who have died.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّ المُؤَيَّدَ واحِدٌ

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّ المُؤَيَّدَ واحِدٌ

ويفعَلُ دَهراً ما يُريدُ ويحكُمُ

ويفعَلُ دَهراً ما يُريدُ ويحكُمُ

Our way holds that the divinely aided one is unique,

And for an age he does what he wills and rules.

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّ البِداياتِ كلَّها

طَرِيقَتُنَا أنَّ البِداياتِ كلَّها

بتصْريفِ أَمرِ اللهِ تبدو وتُخْتَمُ

بتصْريفِ أَمرِ اللهِ تبدو وتُخْتَمُ

Our way holds that all beginnings

Unfold and are sealed by the ordering of God's command.
