One of low resolve has low ambition,
The one with lowly resolve, his ambition is lowly
and one of noble nature has lofty ambition.
And the one of noble nature, his ambition is lofty

This one pursues matters he desires,
One strives for affairs he seeks
while that one's concern is to cast creation aside.
While the other, his affairs are renouncing vanities
تفكَّرْreflect بيon me فَدَيْتُكَmay I be your ransom ياO رَفيقيmy companion

Reflect on me—may I be your ransom, my companion—
Reflect, my friend, I have ransomed you
and take from me the clear indications.
And take from me the clear hints
طَوَيْتُI folded away الحادِثاتِthe events وراءَbehind ظَهْريmy back
علىaccording to نَسَقِthe pattern of الشُّؤُنِthe ways الحَيْدَرِيَّهْof Haydar
I folded events away behind my back,
I have turned events behind my back
following the pattern of the Haydari ways.
In the manner of important Haydari affairs

And I restrained my eyes and rose blind
And I have restrained my eyes, so I stood blind
to created worlds, with resolve and intention.
To the elements in determination and purpose
رَضيتُI was content بِخِرْقَتيwith my patched cloak وبمِرْطِand with the wrap of ثَوْبيmy garment

وسابَقْتُand I raced الأَحِبَّةَthe beloved ones فيin السَّرِيَّهْthe expedition
I was content with my patched cloak and my garment's wrap,
I was content with my rags and the coarseness of my garment
and raced the beloved ones on the expedition.
And surpassed loved ones in secrecy

And I said to the self's passing impulses: Wait!
And I said to the enticers of the self, wait
Spare me your hidden intrigues.
Leave me from your hidden schemes
أَهَلْis it? بالسَّعْيِthrough striving يُرْزَقُis provided for رَبُّone engaged in سَعْيٌstriving

Does the striver receive provision through striving?
Indeed, a Lord provides for the one who makes effort
Establish for me the conclusion in the proposition.
Bring me the result in the matter
وهاتِand bring لناto us القِياسَthe syllogism صَحيحَsound سَوْقٍpresentation

And bring us the syllogism, soundly set forth,
And give us the correct, honest analogy
or else you are foolish in essence.
Otherwise, you are dimwitted in meaning
فكمfor how many خِبٍّa trickster سَقيمِunsound in الرَّأْيِjudgment خَبْلٍwitless

For how many a trickster, unsound in judgment and witless,
How many deficient ones, sick in opinion and confused
enjoys a comfortable worldly life!
And their living in their world is easy
وكمand how many حَبْرٍa scholar يَموجُsurges ببحْرِin a sea of عِلْمٍknowledge

And how many a scholar, surging in a sea of knowledge,
And how many ink-users surge in an ocean of knowledge
has clouds of affliction arising from his poverty!
Their poverty causes them great distress
فإِمَّاso either المُلْكُdominion للدُّنْياover the world جَميعاًentirely
وإِمَّاor else تَرْكُهاrenouncing it بالأَوْلَوِيَّهْpreferably
Thus, either dominion over the whole world,
So either complete sovereignty of the world
or, preferably, renunciation of it.
Or leaving it with utmost priority
وهذاand this التَّرْكُrenunciation يُمْكِنُis possible كلَّevery آنٍmoment
وأمَّاand as for المُلْكُdominion رُتْبَتُهُits rank قَصِيَّهْdistant
And this renunciation is possible at any moment,
And this leaving is possible at any time
while the rank of dominion is far away.
While sovereignty, its level is far
وإنَّand indeed الزُّهْدَrenunciation أَحسنُthe finest كلِّof every طَوْرٍstate
لذيfor one possessing نَفْسٍa soul مُطَهَّرَةٍpurified رَضِيَّهْcontented
And renunciation is the finest of all states
Indeed, asceticism is best in every case
for one with a purified, contented soul.
For one with a pure, content soul
ومُذْand when حاوَرْتُهاI debated with it غُلِبَتْit was defeated فحارَتْso it was bewildered

And when I debated with it, it was defeated and bewildered,
And since I debated with it, it was defeated and bewildered
and through helplessness became pure and undefiled.
And from incapacity it became purely chaste
فرَدَّيْتُso I drew back العِنانَthe reins لهاfor it مَحاقاًeffacement

بشِدَّةِwith the force of هِمَّةٍresolve مِنِّيfrom me أَبِيَّهْunyielding
So I drew back its reins toward effacement,
So I gave it the rein insistently
with the force of my unyielding resolve.
With a determination from me too unyielding
ولمand did not أَعْبَأْI pay heed بهاto it حتَّىuntil تَفانَتْit vanished utterly

And I paid it no heed until it vanished utterly,
And I did not care about it until it perished
and died, helpless yet strong.
And died while it was powerful and helpless
وقدْand indeed فُجِرَتْwere made to gush يَنابيعُthe wellsprings of التَّجَلِّيmanifestation

And the wellsprings of manifestation burst forth
And the springs of illumination were unleashed
in my heart, from pure conduits.
In my heart from pure, refined channels

So I brought forth words, words of truth,
So I brought forth words, words of truth
from subtle, essential wisdom.
From wise, gentle, jeweled wisdom
فإنْso if وَفَدَتُcomes بُنَيَّmy little son عليكَto you دُنْياthe world

So if the world comes to you, my little son,
So if the world comes to you as a delegation
take her with the Hashimi right hand.
Take it with the right hand, Hashimi

And do not let your heart be concerned with her in this matter;
And do not let it distract your heart in the matter
the heart's poisons in this are hidden.
The poisons of the heart in this are hidden

And if she departs, slap the back of her neck,
And if it leaves, then smooth its forehead
for her arrival and her return are vile.
For its coming and going are vile

And divorce her in your innermost being, however she goes,
And divorce it secretly however it goes
with a soul rich in faith.
With a soul of faith, rich

And take the Messenger's way as your way,
And take the way of the Messenger as a way
and follow in the footsteps of his pious band.
And adhere to the path of his pious companions

And make the path of spiritual knowledge your nature,
And truly realize the way of mysticism by nature
in accord with the Ahmadi dispositions.
In harmony with the most praiseworthy nature

For forsaking creation is the easiest of all things
For leaving the universe is easiest of everything
for a servant who seeks to meet his Prophet.
For a servant who hopes to meet his Prophet

And do not turn your heart toward hopes,
And do not incline your heart to hopes
and take from your shaykh al-Mahdi his garb.
And take the raiment of your guide Mahdi

For the Mahdawiyya, wherever they may be,
Indeed, wherever the Mahdis may be
have a special distinction through the Hashimi's state.
With the condition of the Hashimi, they have stature

Their oath is a firm covenant from him
His protection of the covenant with them is binding
to renunciation—how excellent the oath!
Upon an asceticism, what an excellent allegiance

Yes, those are Muhammadan affairs
