In my inmost heart I raised all my affairs to my Master.

So, my Master, set my affairs right through Your sheer good pleasure.

I came to You, my wing clipped, humbly submissive,

Abased, without excuse—oh, accept my excuse!

I crouched at the gate of Your bounty, and have remained

In hope of kindness, O boundless in goodness.

My sins, yes, have increased, and my burden is grievous,

Yet Your generosity, O my Lord, is greater than my burden.

I filled my courtyards with my tears in abasement,

And came with my brokenness; in mercy, mend my brokenness.

I have no knowledge to offer You, nor piety,

And my hardship is heavy; replace hardship with ease.

So treat me with bounty, of which You are surely worthy,

And lighten sins that have weighed my back down with suffering.

    فلا تَكْشِفنْ للوِزْرِ يا خالِقي سِتْري

    You generously spread Your veil over me;

So do not lift my covering, my Creator, because of sin.

Pour forth light from Yourself for me, that I may walk by its light,

And proceed secure and trusting; open wide my breast.

And train me, in Your care, through Your sheer bounty,

That I may live in the fortress of safety from the calamity of time.

O hope of those who hope, O ultimate end of hope,

And O refuge of the distressed, in secret and in public,

By Your enduring sovereignty, Your bounty and exaltedness,

By Your knowledge, Your governance, Your prohibition and command,

By the might of a power whose sail You have unfurled,

So that it echoed the thunder of subjugation over all things,

By pure majesty, before which all are submissive,

By the spirit of beauty, whose secret flows forever,

By the divinity of singular oneness, whose station is exalted,

Rising beyond any definable limit or fathoming,

By the manifestation of a ray from hearts made spiritual

Through thanking You and remembrance in the predawn hours, my Master,

By the yearning state of men whose tears

Flow in torrents from their eye-corners out of fear,

By their trembling among the led mounts in the night journey

Toward You, with those firm resolves upon the way,

By the longing of spirits and the purification of souls,

And the sincerity of hearts never distracted from reflection,

They turned toward You like doves toward their nest—

And no wonder if doves yearn for their nest.

    ومنْ أخْلَصَ التَّوحيدَ يَعْمى عن الغَيْرِ

    They closed their eyes to all others, for all things pass away;

Whoever sincerely affirms Oneness is blind to all else.

Companies of sincerity, stirred by sincerity toward piety,

Spent the night on embers from unrelenting fear.

    تُخالِفُها الأمواتُ في سَكَنِ القَبْرِ

    In the garments of the living, they die of longing;

The dead, at rest in the grave, are unlike them.

By their sincerity, my Lord, by the tenderness of their moaning,

By a shower of tears that surpasses a shower of rain,

By his sovereignty when he swayed in the presence of Command,

How excellent a leader is he at the holy lote tree!

Into his heart, filled with righteousness and goodness,

By a thunderous peal from the spirit of the proof of his spirit,

Across the records of the days, age upon age,

By a state he enfolded among the proofs of his opening

For his righteous, noble companion, Abu Bakr,

Who equipped that army in a time of hardship,

Raised the Day of Judgment against the foe in his charge,

By every knowing saint possessed of spiritual truth,

Who has scooped up secrets from that sea,

By the protector of the sanctuary, shaykh of the helpless, Ahmad,

Abu al-Alamayn, shining forth with the full moon's radiance,

By all the men of God among the masters of the age,

Rescue our plight, my Lord, through hidden kindness,

And bestow kindness on us from where we do not know.

Turn the arrows of the envious back upon their throats,

And seize them with a severing blow for the guile they harbor.

Pour upon them a rain of Your punishment,

Afflicting them with evil in their hour of heedless play.

For they have nullified judgment and grown corrupt in their inward intent,

And openly spread corruption on sea and land.

Abiding between the waterspout of Reality and the Hijr,

And You know his secrets through the sincerity of his state.

So magnify my remembrance, my Creator, for this purpose.

And bless the spirit of all existences,

Your beloved Taha, master of the sincere and pure.

And perfume a tomb that enfolded him, where he came to rest,

With a fragrance whose wafting fills the Throne and the carpet of earth.
