كَلِفتُ بحبِّكُمْ وجداً وإنِّي

كَلِفتُ بحبِّكُمْ وجداً وإنِّي

رأيتُ بِكُمْ عن الدُّنيا فَراغي

رأيتُ بِكُمْ عن الدُّنيا فَراغي

I was consumed with love for you, in ardent longing, and indeed I

I was tasked with loving you passionately

found through you my freedom from the world.

And I saw through you my detachment from this world

فإنَّ مَتاعَها واللَّهوَ فيها

فإنَّ مَتاعَها واللَّهوَ فيها

على رَغمِ المُناقِرِ لَغْوُ لاغِ

على رَغمِ المُناقِرِ لَغْوُ لاغِ

For its pleasures and the diversion within it

For its possessions and distractions are, by God

are a babbler's idle talk, despite the caviler.

Idle chatter in spite of protests

ومن لَفَتَ العِنانَ إلى سِواكُمْ

ومن لَفَتَ العِنانَ إلى سِواكُمْ

ومالَ مع الهَوَى طاغٍ وباغِ

ومالَ مع الهَوَى طاغٍ وباغِ

And whoever turns the reins toward anyone but you

Whoever loosens the reins toward other than you

and yields to desire is a transgressor and a rebel.

And inclines with desire, defiant and unruly

غَرامُكُمُ انْطَوى في العقلِ حتَّى

غَرامُكُمُ انْطَوى في العقلِ حتَّى

تحَكَّمَ في الفُؤادِ وفي الدِّماغِ

تحَكَّمَ في الفُؤادِ وفي الدِّماغِ

Love for you lay enfolded in the intellect until

Your love has wrapped itself in reason until

it held sway over the heart and the brain.

It has taken hold of my heart and mind

رَسولُ الغيبِ بلَّغَنا هَواكُمْ

رَسولُ الغيبِ بلَّغَنا هَواكُمْ

وليسَ على الرَّسولِ سِوى البَلاغَ

وليسَ على الرَّسولِ سِوى البَلاغَ

The messenger of the unseen conveyed your love to us,

The messenger of the unseen has conveyed to us your love

and the messenger's only duty is to convey the message.

And the messenger has no task but to convey
