رأَيتُ رسولَ اللهِ سبعينَ مرَّةً

رأَيتُ رسولَ اللهِ سبعينَ مرَّةً

يُجَهِّزُني حالاً إلى خدمَةِ الشَّرْعِ

يُجَهِّزُني حالاً إلى خدمَةِ الشَّرْعِ

I saw God's Messenger seventy times,

Seventy times have I seen Allah's messenger

equipping me at once to serve the sacred law,

Prepare me at once for serving sacred law;

ويُصلِتُني سيفاً على كلِّ بِعدَةٍ

ويُصلِتُني سيفاً على كلِّ بِعدَةٍ

وأَصحابِها أَهْلِ الغَوايَةِ بالطَّبْعِ

وأَصحابِها أَهْلِ الغَوايَةِ بالطَّبْعِ

and unsheathing me as a sword against every innovation

And make me into a sword against each heretic

and its adherents, people astray by nature.

And their people, men of misguidance by their nature.

ويأْمُرُ أن أُبقي المُباحَ رِياضَةً

ويأْمُرُ أن أُبقي المُباحَ رِياضَةً

لأَحْبابِهِ إذْ حملَةُ الحكمِ بالوُسْعِ

لأَحْبابِهِ إذْ حملَةُ الحكمِ بالوُسْعِ

And he commands that I retain what is permissible as spiritual discipline

He commanded me to keep the lawful as a meadow

for his loved ones, since the law's burden accords with capacity;

For his loved ones, the bearers of rule in capacity.

وأن أَجتَلي نورَ الشَّريعَةِ بالهُدى

وأن أَجتَلي نورَ الشَّريعَةِ بالهُدى

على نصِّهِ المَنْصوصِ بالوصْلِ والقَطْعِ

على نصِّهِ المَنْصوصِ بالوصْلِ والقَطْعِ

and that I behold the light of the sacred law through guidance,

And to unsheathe the light of Sacred Law with guidance

according to his expressly stated text, in joining and severing;

Upon its precise text, joined and divided.

وأن لا أرَى التَّشديد في الدِّينِ منهَجاً

وأن لا أرَى التَّشديد في الدِّينِ منهَجاً

وأن لا أرَى قبضَ العِنانِ عن الرَّدْعِ

وأن لا أرَى قبضَ العِنانِ عن الرَّدْعِ

and that I not regard strictness in religion as a path,

And not to see severity in religion as a way,

and that I not approve withholding the reins from restraint;

Nor to let loose the reins from deterrence.

وأن أَقطَعَ الأَلبابَ عن رِبْقَةِ الهَوَى

وأن أَقطَعَ الأَلبابَ عن رِبْقَةِ الهَوَى

وأَفعَلَ عندَ الأَمرِ بالعزمِ والصَّدْعِ

وأَفعَلَ عندَ الأَمرِ بالعزمِ والصَّدْعِ

and that I cut minds free from the halter of desire,

And to cut off minds from the mire of passion,

and act upon the command with resolve and open proclamation;

And to act with resolve and integrity when commanded.

وأن لا أرَى شقَّ العِصِيِّ ذَريعَةً

وأن لا أرَى شقَّ العِصِيِّ ذَريعَةً

وأن أرَى حكمَ الوَصْلِ للأَصلِ بالفَرْعِ

وأن أرَى حكمَ الوَصْلِ للأَصلِ بالفَرْعِ

and that I not regard splitting the staves as a means,

And not to see the breaking of sticks as a means,

and that I acknowledge the rule of joining root to branch;

But to see the rule of connection to origin through branch.

وأن أُحكِمَ التَّنزيهَ للهِ خالِصاً

وأن أُحكِمَ التَّنزيهَ للهِ خالِصاً

عن الفوقِ والتَّحتِ المُمَهَّدِ والشَّفْعِ

عن الفوقِ والتَّحتِ المُمَهَّدِ والشَّفْعِ

and that I firmly affirm pure transcendence for God,

And to perfect transcendence for God sincerely,

free from above, from the spread-out below, and from pairing;

Above high and low, smoothed and paired.

وأن أرَى تركَ الإتِّحادِ ونوعِهِ

وأن أرَى تركَ الإتِّحادِ ونوعِهِ

وإحكامَ حكمِ النَّصِّ في الفرقِ والجَمْعِ

وإحكامَ حكمِ النَّصِّ في الفرقِ والجَمْعِ

and that I favor renouncing union and anything of its kind,

And to see leaving union and its kind,

and firmly establishing the text's ruling in separation and gathering;

And perfecting the rule of text in division and gathering.

وأن أزرَعَ الحكمَ الَّذي قد أخذْتُهُ

وأن أزرَعَ الحكمَ الَّذي قد أخذْتُهُ

بوادٍ تِهامِيِّ الحِمى غيرِ ذي زَرْعِ

بوادٍ تِهامِيِّ الحِمى غيرِ ذي زَرْعِ

and that I sow the ruling I have received

And to plant the judgment I have taken

in a valley of Tihama's protected precinct, devoid of crops.

In valleys towering with protected sanctity, lacking crops.

هُنالِكَ أدَّيتُ الأَمانَةَ أَهلَها

هُنالِكَ أدَّيتُ الأَمانَةَ أَهلَها

وقمتُ كما جُهِّزْتُ في خدمَةِ الشَّرْعِ

وقمتُ كما جُهِّزْتُ في خدمَةِ الشَّرْعِ

There I delivered the trust to those entitled to it,

Thereupon I will have given the Trust to its people,

and I stood, as I had been equipped, in service to the sacred law.

And acted as I was prepared in serving Sacred Law.
