ما أحسن الصباحُ لما انبلجا
أتىit came وقبلهُand before it البراياall creation فيin دُجىdarkness

How beautiful the morning was when it broke!
How beautiful is the dawn when it shines
It came, and before it all creation was in darkness.

كأنَّماas though الوجودُexistence بيتٌa house مظلمٌdark
كأنَّما الوجودُ بيتٌ مظلمٌ
وحينماand when جاءcame الصباحُthe morning أُسرجاit was lit up
وحينما جاء الصباحُ أُسرجا
As though existence were a dark house,
As if existence was a dark house
and when morning came, it was lit up.
And when dawn came it was illuminated
قدsometimes يولجٌHe makes enter النهارthe day فيinto الليلthe night وقدand sometimes
قد يولجٌ النهار في الليل وقد
يقلبreverses ربيmy Lord حكمthe order ماwhat قدalready أولجاHe made enter
يقلب ربي حكم ما قد أولجا
Sometimes He makes day enter night, and sometimes
Day may slip into night, and my Lord
my Lord reverses the order of what He has made enter.
Could overturn what was ordained
أتىcame بذاwith this القرآنthe Qur’an نصاًa text قيِّماًupright
أتى بذا القرآن نصاً قيِّماً
ولنand never ترىyou will see بهin it لعمريby my life عوجاcrookedness
ولن ترى به لعمري عوجا

and, by my life, you will never see any crookedness in it.
