1. تَحْتَ سَبْرِ المُرَفْرَفِ الأزَلِيِّ

    والنِّماطِ المُسَدَّلِ الأبَدِيِّ

    Beneath the fathoming of the beginningless fluttering canopy,

    and the everlastingly lowered covering,

  2. وعَريضِ السِّتْرِ الَّذي نَشَرَتْهُ

    راحَةُ القُدْسِ في الفَضا الغَيْبِيِّ

    and the broad veil that was spread

    by the palm of holiness in the unseen expanse,

  3. وانْجِلاءِ الشُّؤُنِ من كُلِّ رَمزٍ

    مَعْنَوِيٍّ في الطِّرزِ أو عَيْنِيِّ

    and the disclosure of modes from every symbol,

    whether conceptual in design or concrete,

  4. وانْتِساقِ الأسرارِ سِرًّا فَسِرًّا

    وامْتِزاجِ التَّركيبِ في كُلِّ شَيِّ

    and the ordering of secrets, secret after secret,

    and the blending of composition within every thing,

  5. والمُحوضِ البَحْتِ الغَموضِ المَعاني

    تَحتَ سِرْبالِ طَوْرِهِ النَّوْعِيِّ

    and sheer purity, obscure in meaning,

    beneath the robe of its species-specific mode,

  6. وانْبِلاجِ الأشْكالِ لَوناً فَلَوْناً

    بِبُروزِ المُفَسِّرِ الضَّوْئيِّ

    and the dawning of forms, hue after hue,

    through the emergence of the luminous interpreter,

  7. وإِحاطاتِ قدرَةِ الغَيْبِ في الكُ

    لِّ وتَصْريفِ نَشْئِها الفَرْدِيِّ

    and the encompassings of unseen power throughout the whole,

    and the governance of their individual arising,

  8. والتَّدَلِّي من طِلْسَمِ الطَّمْسِ نَشْراً

    قدْ تجلَّى من غارِ ذاكَ الطَّيِّ

    and descent from the talisman of effacement into unfolding—

    it has manifested from the cavern of that folding.

  9. والَّذي أَدرَكَ القُلُوبَ سَميراً

    والَّذي أدرَكَ الفُهومَ بعِيِّ

    And He who reached hearts as a companion of the night,

    and He who overtook understanding with inarticulacy,

  10. والَّذي ناطَ في العُقولِ انْفِتاقاً

    والَّذي مسَّها بذُهْلٍ أَبِيِّ

    and He who lodged an opening within minds,

    and He who touched them with unyielding bewilderment,

  11. والَّذي أَكْسَبَ الخَواطِرَ فَهْماً

    وحَباها من نَشرِهِ العِطْرِيِّ

    and He who gave thoughts understanding,

    and endowed them from His fragrant diffusion,

  12. والَّذي ردَّها عليْها حَيَارى

    فارْتَدَتْ مِرْطَ تيهِها المَلْوِيِّ

    and He who turned them back upon themselves, bewildered,

    so they donned the cloak of their entangled wandering,

  13. والَّذي قَلْقَلَ الخَيالَ فأَوْعا

    هُ شُؤُناً من غيرِ رَسْمٍ وزِيِّ

    and He who shook imagination and made

    it contain modes without outline or outward guise,

  14. والَّذي مدَّ في البَصائِرِ حالاً

    فرأَتْ غيرَ مُبْصِرٍ مَرْئِيِّ

    and He who extended a state within inward sights,

    so they saw what was other than a visible beholder,

  15. وأَفادَ الأَبْصارَ إذْ تشهَدُ النُّو

    رَ اغْتِرافَ الأَشْكالِ وَهْبَ مَلِيِّ

    and taught the eyes, as they witness the light,

    to draw forth forms—a bountiful giver's gift,

  16. وأَثابَ القُوى بُروزاً وطَمْساً

    فهوَ مُعْطي القُوى لكلِّ قَوِيِّ

    and rewarded the powers with manifestation and effacement:

    He gives powers to every powerful one.

  17. وطَوى الأَمْنَ في سفينَةِ نوحٍ

    فاسْتَوَتْ بعدَها على الجُودِيِّ

    And enfolded safety in Noah's ark,

    so afterward it settled upon al-Judi,

  18. وحَمى عبَهُ الخَليلَ من النَّا

    رِ بضُرَّامِ وَقْدِها الجَمْرِيِّ

    and protected His [servant], the Friend, from the fire,

    with the blaze of its ember-fed burning,

  19. وابنَ مَتَّى أَنْجاهُ من ظُلوماتِ ال

    حُوتِ في قَعْرِ كِنِّهِ البَحْرِيِّ

    and the son of Matta He saved from the darkness of

    the whale, deep within its sea-bound shelter,

  20. وحَبا يوسُفَ الوِقايَةَ ضمنَ ال

    جُبِّ في طَيِّ حِفْظِهِ القُدْسِيِّ

    and bestowed on Joseph protection within

    the well, enfolded in His holy keeping.

  21. ثُمَّ أَدْلاهُ بعدَ ذلكَ للسِّجْ

    نِ لِسِرٍّ بعِلْمِهِ مَخْفِيِّ

    Then lowered him afterward into prison,

    for a secret hidden in His knowledge,

  22. ثمَّ أَبْداهُ بالبُروزِ عَزيزاً

    يا لِجَمْعٍ في مَهْمَهٍ فَرْقِيِّ

    then made him emerge, exalted:

    what a union in a wilderness of separation!

  23. وأَزالَ الغِشاءَ عن عَيْنِ يَعْقو

    بَ بشَمِّ القَميصِ من بعدِ غَيِّ

    And removed the veil from Jacob's eye

    by smelling the shirt, after bewildered wandering.

  24. صَرَفَ الحُزْنَ عنهُ حينَ دَعاهُ

    إنَّ هذا من شأْنِهِ الحِكْمِيِّ

    He turned sorrow away from him when he called upon Him:

    this belongs to His wise working.

  25. ردَّ بعدَ الفُقْدانِ مُلْكَ سُلَيْمَا

    نَ بتَصْريفِ فعلِهِ الأَمْرِيِّ

    He restored, after its loss, Solomon's kingdom

    through the governance of His commanding act,

  26. وجَلى بالإِعْزازِ وَحْشَةَ مُوسى

    حينَما فَرَّ لا بِظِلِّ وَلِيِّ

    and dispelled Moses's loneliness by honoring him,

    when he fled, not beneath a protector's shade,

  27. وكَفى الرُّوحَ عَبْدَهُ الحَقَّ عيسَى

    وَصْمَةَ القومِ بينَ نشرٍ وطَيِّ

    and spared the Spirit, His true servant Jesus,

    the people's stigma, between unfolding and folding,

  28. وحَبا المُرْسَلينَ فرْداً ففرْداً

    نِعْمَةَ القُرْبِ والجَلالِ الجَلِيِّ

    and bestowed upon the messengers, one after another,

    the blessing of nearness and manifest majesty,

  29. وسَقى الأَنْبِياءَ كأسَ قَبولٍ

    أبَدِيٍّ في المَحْضَرِ النَّشْئِيِّ

    and gave the prophets a cup of acceptance

    everlasting in the assembly of coming into being,

  30. وطَوى مُجْمَلَ الوُجوداتِ طُرًّا

    بنِماطٍ وافْتَضَّهُ للنَّبِيِّ

    and enfolded the entirety of existences, altogether,

    in a covering, and unsealed it for the Prophet.

  31. فانْجَلى من مِضْمارِها قُرَشِيًّا

    حينَ يُنْمى أَفْديهِ من قُرَشِيِّ

    From their arena he emerged a Qurayshite,

    when his lineage is traced—I would ransom him, that Qurayshite!

  32. مُصْطَفاهُ خُلاصَةَ الخلقِ في العِلْ

    مِ ونِبْراسُ نَوْعِها الآدَمِيِّ

    His chosen one, the essence of creation in knowledge,

    and the beacon of its human kind,

  33. مَوْجُ بحرِ الشُّهودِ في حضرَةِ السِّ

    رِّ عِياناً وعينُ كلِّ نَبِيِّ

    the wave of the sea of witnessing in the presence of the secret,

    plainly witnessed, and the essence of every prophet,

  34. حُجَّةُ اللهِ لا يَزالُ على الخَلْ

    قِ وطَمْطامَ عِلمِهِ الصَّمَدِيِّ

    God's proof, forever over creation,

    and the deep ocean of his knowledge of the Eternal Refuge,

  35. نَهْزَةُ الرُّوحِ بانْتِساقِ التَّدَلِّي

    والتَّجَلِّي ضِمنَ اسْتِواءٍ وَلِيِّ

    the spirit's opportunity through the ordered descent

    and manifestation within a saintly equilibrium,

  36. مُفْرَدُ النَّوعِ واحِدُ الطَّوْرِ معنًى

    وكَمالاً في الرَّشِّ قبلَ التَّزَيِّ

    unique among his kind, singular in mode, in meaning

    and perfection, in the sprinkling before taking on a guise,

  37. نُكْتَةُ العَدْلِ في ضَميرِ البَرايا

    وهُداها إلى الطَّريقِ السَّوِيِّ

    the subtle point of justice in the conscience of creatures,

    and their guidance to the straight path,

  38. ذو الحَياةِ المَرْسومَةِ النَّقْشَ رَمْزاً

    وصَريحاً في دَفَّتَيْ كلِّ حَيِّ

    possessor of the life whose design is inscribed symbolically

    and explicitly between the two covers of every living being,

  39. عَلَمُ الفرقِ في مُحاضَرَةِ الجمْ

    عِ وسُلْطانُ مُلْكِها النَّبَوِيِّ

    the banner of separation in the presence of union,

    and sovereign of its prophetic kingdom,

  40. هاشِمِيُّ النِّجارِ في النَّسَقِ الأَزْ

    هَرِ نوعاً من غَيْرِ ظُلْمَةِ فَيِّ

    Hashemite in lineage, within the radiant order,

    in kind, without the darkness of shade,

  41. حَفْلَةُ الأُنْسِ سيِّدُ الجِنِّ والإنْ

    سِ وبُرْهانُ شَكْلِها الإِنْسِيِّ

    the gathering of intimacy, master of jinn and humankind,

    and the proof of its human form,

  42. نُقْطَةُ الكنزِ سَبْرُ أَرْصادِ رَمْزٍ

    صَمَدِيٍّ في طِلْسَمٍ أحَدِيِّ

    the treasure's point, the fathoming of a symbol's wardings—

    a symbol of the Eternal Refuge within a talisman of oneness,

  43. فائِقٌ رَتْقَ كلِّ سِرٍّ خَفِيٍّ

    راتِقُ فَتْقَ كلِّ غَمْصٍ جَلِيِّ

    surpassing the sealing of every hidden secret,

    mending the rift of every evident slight.

  44. قد أَقامَ الحُدودَ عدلاً ووَفَّى

    بوَفاءِ العُهودِ شأْنَ الوَفِيِّ

    He established the prescribed limits justly, and fulfilled

    the faithful one's duty through fidelity to covenants.

  45. فهو سيفُ القَضا على كلِّ باغٍ

    ومَنيعُ الحِمى لكلِّ وَلِيِّ

    He is the sword of judgment against every transgressor,

    and an impregnable sanctuary for every friend.

  46. جاءَ بالشَّرْعِ وبالحَنيفِيَّةِ السَّمْ

    حاءِ والخيرِ والنَّوالِ الوَفِيِّ

    He brought the law and the tolerant upright faith,

    goodness, and abundant bounty,

  47. وحَبا العارِفينَ فَيَّاضَ نورٍ

    ضاءَ منهُمْ في الطَّالِعِ القَلْبِيِّ

    and bestowed upon the knowers an overflow of light

    that shone from them in the heart's ascendant.

  48. حَفَّهُمْ بالرِّضا فلاحَ عليهِمْ

    نورُهُ من طِرازِهِ المَرْضِيِّ

    He surrounded them with favor, and there shone upon them

    his light, from his well-approved pattern.

  49. كيفَ أَنْسى إحْسانَهُ وهو بعدَ الل

    هِ سَيْفي وسِرُّ نَشْري وطَيِّي

    How could I forget his kindness, when he is, after God,

    my sword and the secret of my unfolding and folding,

  50. وعِتادي وحُجَّتي وعِمادي

    وظَهيري وناصِري ووَلِيِّي

    my equipment, my proof, and my support,

    my backer, my helper, and my guardian?

  51. وهو رُوحي بنَشْأَتي وبُروزي

    وانْقِلابي ما بينَ مَيْتٍ وحَيِّ

    He is my spirit in my arising and emergence,

    and my transformation between death and life.

  52. أَتْحَفَتْني يدُ العِنايَةِ منهُ

    بجَمالٍ في النَّمْطِ مُصْطَفَوِيِّ

    The hand of providence from him gifted me

    with beauty in the pattern of Mustafa,

  53. وجَلالٍ طَوى صُنوفَ نَوالٍ

    أَسْكَرَتْني بكأْسِها المَدَنِيِّ

    and majesty that enfolded varieties of bounty

    that intoxicated me with their Medinan cup.

  54. أَخَذَتْني منِّي فغُيِّبْتُ عنِّي

    رَيِّضاً في رِحابِهِ الأَنْوَرِيِّ

    They took me from myself, so I was made absent from myself,

    submissive in his radiant precincts.

  55. وبسُلْطانِ أَمرِهِ للرِّفاعِي

    مدَّ لي نَسْجَ حالِهِ الذَّوْقِيِّ

    And by the sovereign power of his command to al-Rifa‘i,

    he extended to me the weave of his experiential state,

  56. وتوَلَّى أَمْري برُوحٍ جلتْ لي

    حُكْمَ مِضْمارِ نَهْجِهِ الشَّرْعِيِّ

    and undertook my affairs with a spirit that revealed to me

    the rule of the arena of his path of sacred law.

  57. عَلَّمَتْني ذَوْقاً عُلومُ المَعاني

    بعدَ خَوْضي لبحرِها اللَّفْظِيِّ

    The sciences of meanings taught me through direct tasting,

    after I had plunged into their verbal sea.

  58. قدْ قرأْتُ العُلومَ فَنًّا ففَنًّا

    كُلَّ مَعْقولِها أَو النَّقْلِيِّ

    I read the sciences, discipline by discipline,

    all their rational or transmitted learning,

  59. وتدبَّرْتُها وأَحْكَمْتُ عنها

    حُكْمَ سَيْري في المنهَجِ الرُّوحِيِّ

    and pondered them, and drew from them a firm grasp of

    the rule of my journey on the spiritual path.

  60. وأَفاضَ الرَّحمنُ لي من هُداها

    كشفَ قلبٍ مُؤيَّدٍ مَرْعِيِّ

    And the All-Merciful poured forth for me from their guidance

    the unveiling of a heart sustained and protected.

  61. صانَهُ اللهُ من مَزالِقِ شطْحٍ

    وغُرورٍ ومزجِ لَيٍّ بِلَيِّ

    God guarded it from the pitfalls of ecstatic excess,

    and delusion, and blending one distortion with another.

  62. قامَ جُزْئِيُّهُ بضَحْضاحِ حالٍ

    قدْ أتى بالمُرَقْرَقِ الكُلِّيِّ

    Its particular aspect stood in a state's shallow waters

    that brought forth the universal shimmer.

  63. عَرَجَتْ بي عَنِّي إلى عالمِ القَدْ

    سِ صِفاتي فغِبْتُ عن كلِّ شَيِّ

    Into the realm of holiness, beyond myself, they bore me—

    my qualities—so I became absent from all things,

  64. برَقيقٍ من الشُّهودِ أَنيقٍ

    غيرَ مُسْتَظْهِرٍ بقَيْسٍ وطَيِّ

    through a delicate, graceful witnessing,

    without seeking backing from Qays and Tayy.

  65. عاجِزٌ والسَّعادَةُ اكْتَنَفَتْني

    فدَعَتْني بالعارِفِ الأَحمَدِيِّ

    Helpless, while happiness surrounded me,

    it called me the Ahmadi knower.

  66. وعُبَيْدٌ ضَلِلْتُ فاجْتَذَبَتْني

    ودَعَتْني بالسَّيِّدِ المَهْدِيِّ

    And I, a lowly servant, went astray; then it drew me in,

    and called me the rightly guided master.

  67. جَلْبَبَتْني الخَفاءَ فيه ظُهورٌ

    عن شَميمٍ مُؤَنَّقٍ عَبْهَرِيِّ

    It cloaked me in concealment containing manifestation,

    from a refined, narcissus-scented fragrance.

  68. رَقَمَتْهُ أَقلامُ دائرَةِ الغَيْ

    بِ بلَوْحِ الوَلايَةِ العُلْمِيِّ

    The pens of the circle of the unseen inscribed it

    upon the tablet of knowledge-bearing sainthood.

  69. فرَأَتْهُ الأَفْرادُ جيلاً فجيلاً

    ضمنَ منشورِ جَفْرِهِ اللَّوْحِيِّ

    The solitary ones saw it, generation after generation,

    within the writ of its tablet-inscribed jafr.

  70. راقَبوني ليغْنَمَ الكُلُّ منِّي

    سِرَّ قُدْسٍ من حاليَ النَّمَطِيِّ

    They watched me so everyone might gain from me

    a secret of holiness from my patterned state.

  71. شَبَحَتْ لي عُيونُهُمْ لتَراني

    من فَجاجِ المُطَلْسَمِ الغَيْهَبِيِّ

    Their eyes strained toward me to see me

    from the passes of the dark, talisman-enclosed realm.

  72. جَهِلَ الأَكْثَرونَ إِبَّانَ وقتي

    يا لقربٍ عن الشُّهودِ قَصِيِّ

    Most did not know during my time:

    oh, a nearness far removed from witnessing!

  73. حاوَلوا في العِراقِ منِّي بُروزاً

    لو تَوَلَّوْا للجانِبِ الغَرْبِيِّ

    They sought a manifestation of me in Iraq—

    if only they had turned toward the western side!

  74. في نَواحي مِتْكينَ بالقُرْبِ منها

    لي خِباءٌ في رَفْرَفٍ مَخْبِيِّ

    In the environs of Mitkin, near it,

    I have a tent within a hidden fluttering canopy.

  75. طَلْسَمَتْهُ يدُ العِنايَةِ كَنزاً

    سوفَ يَبْدو بخِبْئِهِ الجَوْهَرِيِّ

    The hand of providence talismaned it as a treasure:

    it will appear with its jewel-like hidden treasure.

  76. تَنْتَقيهِ قُلوبُ قومٍ كِرامٍ

    وتَراهُ رَدًّا لكُلِّ رَدِيِّ

    The hearts of noble people choose it,

    and see it as a refutation of every base one.

  77. يملأُ الأَرضَ من رَقائِقِ حالي

    بالطَّريقِ المُقَوَّمِ الأَحْمَدِيِّ

    It fills the earth with the subtleties of my state

    through the rectified Ahmadi path.

  78. راجِعٌ كلُّهُ إلى اللهِ بالل

    هِ بنَصِّ البِشارَةِ المَرْوِيِّ

    All of it returns to God, through God,

    according to the wording of the transmitted glad tidings.

  79. غالَطَ الحاسِدونَ فيهِ فَساداً

    وعِناداً عن مُخْبِرٍ مَخْزِيِّ

    The envious disputed it falsely, out of corruption

    and obstinacy, on the authority of a disgraced informant.

  80. قولُنا قالَهُ النَّبِيُّ المُفَدَّى

    يا لقولٍ مُصَدَّقٍ مَرْعِيِّ

    Our statement was spoken by the Prophet for whom ransom is offered:

    what a statement, affirmed and safeguarded!

  81. والَّذي قالَهُ الحَواسِدُ زوراً

    قولُ زُعْمٍ في النَّعْتِ إبْليسِيِّ

    And what the envious spoke falsely

    is an unfounded claim, satanic in character.

  82. أيُّها الوارِثُ الكَريمُ بِحالي

    رُحْ أَميناً عن لَوْثِ كُلِّ غَوِيِّ

    O noble inheritor of my state,

    go forth safe from the pollution of every errant one.

  83. اعْبُدِ اللهَ خاشِعاً بفُؤادٍ

    خالِصٍ طاهِرٍ سَليمٍ نَقِيِّ

    Worship God humbly, with a heart

    sincere, pure, sound, and clean.

  84. واهْجُرِ المارِقينَ واغْلُظْ عليهِمْ

    وابْتَدِرْهُمْ بمشْرَبٍ عُمَرِيِّ

    Shun the renegades and be stern with them,

    and confront them promptly with Umar's disposition.

  85. وتَباعَدْ عن رَبِّ بَدْعَةِ فِعْلٍ

    أَهلِ زورٍ بسَبْكِهِ القَوْلِيِّ

    Keep far from the author of an innovated practice—

    one of falsehood's people, in his verbal crafting.

  86. واقْطَعِ الخائِنينَ عنكَ وأَعْظِمْ

    حالَ عبدٍ من الضِعافِ تَقِيِّ

    Cut the traitors off from yourself, and esteem

    the state of a devout servant among the weak.

  87. وتَواضَعْ سِرًّا وكُنْ شامِخَ الطَّوْ

    رِ جِهاراً للمَشْهَدِ الوَقْتِيِّ

    Be humble in secret, and lofty in bearing

    in public, for the scene of the present moment.

  88. واحْفَظِ العهدَ للإِمامِ وباعِدْ

    كلَّ خِبٍّ بكَيْدِهِ مَشْوِيِّ

    Keep the covenant with the Imam, and keep away

    every trickster roasted in his own scheming.

  89. أَهلُ شَقِّ العَصا عُصاةٌ فدَعْهُمْ

    واغْتَنِمْ طَوْرَ صالِحٍ مَرْضِيِّ

    Those who split the staff of unity are rebels; leave them,

    and seize the state of one righteous and well-approved.

  90. واحْفَظِ اللهَ في الشُّؤُنِ جَميعاً

    وتمسَّكْ بنَصِّهِ القُدْسِيِّ

    Heed God in all affairs,

    and hold fast to His holy text.

  91. وارْوِ عنِّي الطَريقَ حالاً وذَوْقاً

    حَسْبَ مَنْصوصِ نَهْجِهِ المَبْنِيِّ

    Transmit from me the path, in state and direct tasting,

    according to the stated wording of its established way.

  92. وتوكَّلْ قلباً على اللهِ تُكْفى

    هكذا قولُ جَدِّنا الأُمِيِّ

    Rely on God with your heart; you will be sustained—

    such is the saying of our unlettered grandfather.

  93. وانْتَظِمْ بي وافْنِ الزَّمانَ بحُبِّي

    إنَّ حُبَّ المَوْلى بحُبِّ الوَلِيِّ

    Join yourself to me, and exhaust time in loving me:

    love of the Lord comes through love of the saint.

  94. وانْطَبِعْ فيَّ إِنَّني لكَ عينٌ

    فتَبَخْتَرْ ببُرْدِيَ الخَتْمِيِّ

    Be imprinted in me, for I am your eye;

    so stride proudly in my mantle of the Seal.
