Why has he turned away from me

And blamed me unjustly, prolonging it?

    Could that be coyness

    From my beloved, or boredom?

Will he, I wonder, accept my excuse

Now that I have come as a supplicant?

For I have been cheapened by the one

    I prize beyond all measure.

He is excused: he saw people

    Speaking, and so he spoke.

My master, your desertion has left me

    No standing among people.

You are my soul; I cannot imagine

Parting from you, O my soul.

So when you are gone, I look

To the right and to the left.

How could I forget, or grow indifferent to,

    Your kindness and beauty?

    فيكَ قَلبي يَتَوالى

    You are an exemplar of beauty;

My heart remains loyal to you.

No, by the truth of God, your suspicion

    Of me is not lawful.

Indeed, some suspicion is a sin.

God Most High has spoken truly.
