قَد صَحَّ عِندِيَ ماجَرى

قَد صَحَّ عِندِيَ ماجَرى

فَدَعِ اللَجاجَةَ وَالمِرا

What happened has been confirmed to me.

So abandon obstinacy and argument.

كَم قَد كَتَمتُ فَلَم يُفِد

كَم قَد كَتَمتُ فَلَم يُفِد

حَتّى دَرى بِكَ مَن دَرى

حَتّى دَرى بِكَ مَن دَرى

Much have I concealed, yet it did no good,

Until word of you reached those it reached.

ياغافِلاً عَن نَفسِهِ

ياغافِلاً عَن نَفسِهِ

أَخَذَتهُ أَلسِنَةُ الوَرى

أَخَذَتهُ أَلسِنَةُ الوَرى

O you who are heedless of yourself,

Whom the tongues of people have seized!

السَهلُ أَهوَنُ مَسلَكاً

السَهلُ أَهوَنُ مَسلَكاً

فَدَعِ الطَريقَ الأَوعَرا

فَدَعِ الطَريقَ الأَوعَرا

Level ground is easier to travel,

So leave the rougher road.

وَاِعلَم بِأَنَّكَ ماتَقُل

وَاِعلَم بِأَنَّكَ ماتَقُل

في الناسِ قالوا أَكثَرا

في الناسِ قالوا أَكثَرا

And know that whatever you say

About people, they will say more.

فَاِحفَظ لِسانَكَ تَستَرِح

فَاِحفَظ لِسانَكَ تَستَرِح

فَلَقَد كَفى ماقَد جَرى

فَلَقَد كَفى ماقَد جَرى

So guard your tongue, and you will find peace,

For what has already happened is enough.

وَلَقَد نَصَحتُكَ وَاِجتَهَد

وَلَقَد نَصَحتُكَ وَاِجتَهَد

تُ وَأَنتَ بَعدُ تَخَيَّرا

تُ وَأَنتَ بَعدُ تَخَيَّرا

And I have indeed advised you and done my best;

And you, now, make your choice.
