أَيا باكِياً لِزَمانِ الصِبا

أَيا باكِياً لِزَمانِ الصِبا

طَويلٌ عَلَيكَ طَويلٌ عَلَيكَ

طَويلٌ عَلَيكَ طَويلٌ عَلَيكَ

O you who weep for the days of childhood,

O weeper for the days of youth

Long will your weeping last, long will it last.

So long, so long for you

أَضَعتَ الَّذي لَستَ تَعتادُهُ

أَضَعتَ الَّذي لَستَ تَعتادُهُ

وَما كُنتَ تَعرِفُ ما في يَدَيك

وَما كُنتَ تَعرِفُ ما في يَدَيك

You have squandered what you will not revisit,

You lost what you never possessed

And you did not know what was in your hands.

And never knew what was in your hands

خَسِرتَ الصِبا وَخَسِرتَ الشَبابَ

خَسِرتَ الصِبا وَخَسِرتَ الشَبابَ

فَلا شَيءَ أَخسَرُ مِن صَفقَتَيك

فَلا شَيءَ أَخسَرُ مِن صَفقَتَيك

You have lost childhood, and you have lost youth;

You lost your youth and primes

So nothing is more ruinous than your two bargains.

So nothing is a greater loss than your trades

فَإِن شِئتَ فَاِبكِ وَإِن شِئتَ دَع

فَإِن شِئتَ فَاِبكِ وَإِن شِئتَ دَع

فَهَذا إِلَيكَ وَهَذا إِلَيك

فَهَذا إِلَيكَ وَهَذا إِلَيك

So if you wish, weep; and if you wish, stop.

If you wish then weep and if you wish then stop

For this is up to you, and that is up to you.

This is up to you and this is up to you

فَياصاحِبي قَد وَجَدتَ المُعينَ

فَياصاحِبي قَد وَجَدتَ المُعينَ

وَمَن ذاقَ ما ذُقتَ مِن حَسرَتَيك

وَمَن ذاقَ ما ذُقتَ مِن حَسرَتَيك

So, my friend, you have indeed found a helper,

So my friend you found a sympathizer

And one who has tasted the same two regrets as you.

And whoever tastes what you tasted of your regrets

أُناشِدُكَ اللَهَ قِف ساعَةً

أُناشِدُكَ اللَهَ قِف ساعَةً

أَقُل ما لَدَيَّ وَقُل ما لَدَيكَ

أَقُل ما لَدَيَّ وَقُل ما لَدَيكَ

I implore you by God: pause a while;

I implore you by God stand a while

Let me say what I have to say, and say what you have to say.

Tell me the least I have and tell me what you have

وَبِاللَهِ إِن أَعوَزَتكَ الدُموعُ

وَبِاللَهِ إِن أَعوَزَتكَ الدُموعُ

فَخُذ مُقلَتَيَّ وَدَع مُقلَتَيك

فَخُذ مُقلَتَيَّ وَدَع مُقلَتَيك

And by God, if tears fail you,

And by God if tears fail you

Then take my eyes, and leave your own.

Then take my kohl container and leave yours
