My lord, tell me: what has become

of the binding pledge that once was?

Far be it from you to forget what

you and I owe each other.

No face like this beautiful face of yours

    could be among the faithless.

It appears and shines before the eyes

like morning light, and makes me choke on my saliva.

And you claimed you would visit me,

so you left my eye watching the road.

And you made me weep for

    you, from sunset until sunrise.

If I had an eye that could

sleep, I would be content with the night-visiting phantom.

May rain bless the days of union

    and that delightful life.
