سَلاميmy greetings عَلىto مَنone who لاnot يَرُدُّreturns سَلاميmy greetings
سَلامي عَلى مَن لا يَرُدُّ سَلامي
لَقَدindeed هانَhas diminished قَدريmy worth عِندَهُin his eyes وَمَقاميand my standing
لَقَد هانَ قَدري عِندَهُ وَمَقامي
My greetings to one who does not return my greetings.
My greetings to those who don't return my greetings
Indeed, my worth and standing have fallen in his eyes.
My status seems lowly to them and my position
وَإِنّيand indeed I عَلىwith مَنone whom لاnot أُسَمّيهِI name him عاتِبٌaggrieved
وَإِنّي عَلى مَن لا أُسَمّيهِ عاتِبٌ
فَياso, O رَبِّmy Lord لاnot يَبلُغreach إِلَيهِto him كَلاميmy words
فَيا رَبِّ لا يَبلُغ إِلَيهِ كَلامي
And I am aggrieved with one I do not name;
And I blame those whom I don't name
So, my Lord, may my words not reach him.
So Lord, don't let my words reach them

So do not find the breeze's fragrance strange when it wafts
So don't deny the sweet breeze when it blows
Toward you, for that fragrance bears my greetings.
Towards you - that sweetness carries my greetings

Like those of a pregnant woman told she'll bear a boy

And my heart rests easy in Upper Egypt and its people
And in the life I once lived among them and my stay there.
Where I once lived and had a place
