1. سَلَّمَ اللَهُ عَلى مَن

    جاءَنا مِنهُ السَلامُ

    May God grant peace to the one

    from whom greetings of peace came to us.

  2. وَسَقى عَهدَ حَبيبٍ

    لا أُسَمّيهِ الغَمامُ

    And may the days of a beloved be watered—

    one I do not name—by the clouds.

  3. أَنا إِن مُتُّ بِفَرطِ ال

    حُبِّ فيهِ لا أُلامُ

    If I die from an excess of

    love for him, I am not to blame.

  4. ما يَقولُ الناسُ عَنّي

    أَنا صَبٌّ مُستَهامُ

    What do people say about me?

    I am a passionate lover, utterly lovestruck.

  5. عاذِلي إِنَّ حَبيبي

    حَسَنٌ فيهِ الغَرامُ

    My reproacher, surely my beloved

    is one whom it is beautiful to love.

  6. سَمِّهِ إِن لُمتَني في

    هِ يَطِب ذاكَ المَلامُ

    Name him, if you reproach me for

    him; then that reproach will be sweet.

  7. لا تَسَل في الحُبِّ غَيري

    أَنا في الحُبِّ إِمامُ

    Ask no one but me about love;

    I am a master in love.

  8. لِيَ فيهِ مَذهَبٌ يَت

    بَعُني فيهِ الأَنامُ

    In it I have a doctrine;

    all mankind follows me in it.

  9. أَيُّها العاشِقُ إِنَّ ال

    عِشقَ مِن بَعدي حَرامُ

    O lover, truly

    passion after me is forbidden.

  10. أَغَرامٌ مابِقَلبي

    أَم حَريقٌ أَم ضِرامُ

    Is what is in my heart passionate love,

    or a fire, or a raging blaze?

  11. كُلُّ نارٍ غَيرُ نارِ ال

    عِشقِ بَردٌ وَسَلامُ

    Every fire except the fire of

    passion is coolness and peace.
