1. أَلا أَيُّها الناءِ

    مُ إِنَّ اللَيلَ قَد أَصبَح

    Listen, O sleeper!

    Indeed, the night has turned to morning.

  2. وَهَذا الشَرقُ قَد أَعلَ

    نَ بِالنورِ وَقَد صَرَّح

    And this eastern sky has announced itself

    with light, and made itself plain.

  3. أَلَم يوقِظكَ مَن ذَكَّ

    رَ بِاللَهِ وَمَن سَبَّح

    Have you not been awakened by one who reminds you

    of God, and one who glorifies Him?

  4. فَما بالُ دَواعيكَ

    إِلى الخَيراتِ لا تَجنَح

    Why, then, do your impulses

    not incline toward good deeds?

  5. إِذا حَرَّكَكَ الذِكرُ

    تَثاقَلتَ وَلَم تَبرَح

    When remembrance of God stirs you,

    you grow sluggish and do not budge.

  6. أَضَعتَ العُمرَ خُسراناً

    فَبِاللَهِ مَتّى تَربَح

    You have squandered your life at a loss;

    so, by God, when will you profit?

  7. لَقَد أَفلَحَ مَن فيهِ

    يَقولُ اللَهُ قَد أَفلَحَ

    Indeed, successful is the one of whom

    God says, 'He has succeeded.'

  8. إِذا أَصبَحتَ في عُسرٍ

    فَلا تَحزَن لَهُ وَاِفرَح

    When you find yourself in hardship,

    then do not grieve over it, and rejoice.

  9. فَبَعدَ العُسرِ يُسرٌ عا

    جِلٌ وَاِقرَأ أَلَم نَشرَح

    For after hardship comes ease, soon at hand;

    and read 'Have We not expanded?'
