إِن كُنتَ تَقبَلُ مِنّي

إِن كُنتَ تَقبَلُ مِنّي

فَاِرحَل وَفيكَ بَقِيَّه

فَاِرحَل وَفيكَ بَقِيَّه

If you will take my advice,

Then depart while some strength remains in you.

دَعِ اِنتِظارَكَ قَوماً

دَعِ اِنتِظارَكَ قَوماً

لَهُم أُمورٌ بَطِيَّه

لَهُم أُمورٌ بَطِيَّه

Give up waiting for people

Whose affairs move slowly.

وَلا تُقِم في مَكانٍ

وَلا تُقِم في مَكانٍ

وَكُن كَأَنَّكَ حَيَّه

وَكُن كَأَنَّكَ حَيَّه

And do not stay in one place;

And be as though you were a snake.

وَلا تَرَ الناسَ إِلّا

وَلا تَرَ الناسَ إِلّا

عَيناً وَنَفساً أَبِيَّه

عَيناً وَنَفساً أَبِيَّه

And let people see you only as

A man of distinction with an unbowed soul.

وَاِقنَع بِكِسرَةِ خُبزٍ

وَاِقنَع بِكِسرَةِ خُبزٍ

وَهِمَّةٍ كِسرَوِيَّه

وَهِمَّةٍ كِسرَوِيَّه

And be content with a morsel of bread

And an ambition like Khosrow's.

وَلا تَكُن كَعَجوزٍ

وَلا تَكُن كَعَجوزٍ

مُقيمَةٍ في حَنِيَّه

مُقيمَةٍ في حَنِيَّه

And do not be like an old woman

Dwelling in an arched recess.
