إِلى كَم ذا الدَلالُ وَذا التَجَنّي

شَفَيتَ وَحَقِّكَ الحُسّادُ مِنّي

How long this coquetry and flirtation

You healed while my enemies envied me

أُرَدِّدُ فيكَ طولَ اللَيلِ فِكري

فَأَبني ثُمَّ أَهدِمُ ثُمَّ أَبني

I ponder you all night in my thoughts

I build then demolish then build again

لَعَلّي قَد أَسَأتُ وَلَستُ أَدري

فَقُل لي ما الَّذي بُلِّغتَ عَنّي

Maybe I was wrong and I don’t know

So tell me what you’ve heard about me

مُرادي لَو خَبَّأتُكَ يا حَبيبي

مَكانَ النورِ مِن عَيني وَجَفني

My desire, had I hidden you my beloved

In place of the light in my eye and eyelid

وَفيكَ شَرِبتُ كَأسَ الحُبِّ صِرفاً

فَإِن تَرَني سَكَرتُ فَلا تَلُمني

And in you I drank the wine of love undiluted

So if you see me drunk then don’t blame me

تَراني مُتُّ فيكَ هَوىً وَوَجداً

وَتَعلَمُ بي وَتُعرِضُ أَي بِأَنّي

You see me infatuated with passion and fervor

And you know of me yet pretend with “what about me?”

وَأَعرِفُ فيكَ أَعدائي يَقيناً

وَأُظهِرُ عَنهُمُ بَلَهاً كَأَنّي

And I recognize my enemies in you for certain

And I feign ignorance about them as if I don't

وَلي في الحُبِّ أَخلاقٌ كِرامٌ

فَسَل مَن شِئتَ عَنّي وَاِمتَحِنّي

And I have noble ethics in love

So ask whoever you wish about me and test me

وَحَيثُ يَكونُ في الدُنيا وَفاءٌ

هُنالِكَ إِن تَسَل عَنّي تَجِدني

And wherever loyalty exists in the world

There if you ask about me you’ll find me

حَبيبي مَن أَكونُ لَهُ حَبيباً

وَيَجزيني الوَفا وَزناً بِوَزنِ

My beloved who shall I be a lover to

And reward me with loyalty weight for weight

وَلَستُ أَرى لِمَن هُوَ لا يَراني

هَواناً بِالهَوى كَم ذا التَجَنّي

And I don’t see as lowly with passion

One who doesn’t look at me, how long this coquetry and flirtation
