He spoke to me with wine in his mouth,

Its fragrance had already wafted from the bubbles at his smiling lips.

And he went swaying like a branch,

Drunk, going to extremes in his domineering ways.

By God, O lightning, will you tell him

Of the fire in my heart and its blazing?

And will a breeze drifting through the night convey to him

A message from my mouth to his?

I marveled at his stinginess toward me, and at what

    People say of his generosity.

They taught him, and so he began to shun me.

My Lord, exact justice from his teacher.
