بِاللَهِ قِلُ لي يا رَسولُ

بِاللَهِ قِلُ لي يا رَسولُ

ما ذَلِكَ العَتبُ الطَويلُ

ما ذَلِكَ العَتبُ الطَويلُ

By God, tell me, O messenger,

By Allah, say to me, O Messenger

what is that long reproach?

What is that long grievance

بِاللَهِ قُل لي ثانِياً

بِاللَهِ قُل لي ثانِياً

فَلَقَد طَرِبتُ لِما تَقولُ

فَلَقَد طَرِبتُ لِما تَقولُ

By God, tell me once more,

By Allah, say to me again

for what you say has filled me with delight.

For I am disturbed by what you say

لَرِّر لِسَمعي ذِكرَها

لَرِّر لِسَمعي ذِكرَها

وَدَعِ الحَديثَ بِها يَطولُ

وَدَعِ الحَديثَ بِها يَطولُ

Repeat the mention of her for my ears,

Speak softly to my hearing of her

and let the talk of her go on.

And let the talk of her be long

بِاللَهِ لَمّا جِئتَها

بِاللَهِ لَمّا جِئتَها

هَل كانَ رَدٌّ أَم قَبولُ

هَل كانَ رَدٌّ أَم قَبولُ

By God, when you came to her,

By Allah, when you went to her

was there rejection or acceptance?

Was there rejection or acceptance

إِن عادَ لي ذاكَ الرِضا

إِن عادَ لي ذاكَ الرِضا

فَلَكَ البِشارَةُ يارَسولُ

فَلَكَ البِشارَةُ يارَسولُ

If that favor returns to me,

If that pleasure returns to me

then yours is the reward for glad tidings, O messenger.

Then the good news is yours, O Messenger

لَكَ مُهجَتي إِن صَحَّ ذا

لَكَ مُهجَتي إِن صَحَّ ذا

كَ وَإِنَّها عِندي قَليلُ

كَ وَإِنَّها عِندي قَليلُ

My soul is yours if that proves true,

Mine is my love for you if this is true

and even it is little in my eyes.

For with me it is little
