وَجاهِلٍ لازَمَني

وَجاهِلٍ لازَمَني

لَقيتُ مِنهُ عَنَتا

لَقيتُ مِنهُ عَنَتا

And an ignorant man clung to me;

An ignorant man has clung to me

I suffered hardship from him.

And caused me endless grief

كَأَنَّما حَتمٌ عَلَي

كَأَنَّما حَتمٌ عَلَي

هِ الدَهرَ أَن لا يَسكُتا

هِ الدَهرَ أَن لا يَسكُتا

As though it were binding upon

As though fate itself decreed

him, for all time, never to fall silent.

He should never fall silent

أُنسي بِهِ إِذا نَأى

أُنسي بِهِ إِذا نَأى

وَوَحشَتي إِذا أَتى

وَوَحشَتي إِذا أَتى

My comfort in him is when he is far away,

I'm consoled when he's away

And my unease when he comes.

And desolate when he appears

طالَت بِهِ بَلِيَّتي

طالَت بِهِ بَلِيَّتي

يا رَبَّ ما أَدري مَتى

يا رَبَّ ما أَدري مَتى

My affliction because of him has lasted long;

With him my torment lengthens

O Lord, I do not know when...

Oh Lord, I know not when it ends
