وَأَسوَدَ مافيهِ مِنَ الخَيرِ خَصلَةٌ

وَأَسوَدَ مافيهِ مِنَ الخَيرِ خَصلَةٌ

لَهُ زَفرَةٌ مِن شَرِّهِ وَشُواظُ

لَهُ زَفرَةٌ مِن شَرِّهِ وَشُواظُ

And a black man, with not a single good trait in him:

From his wickedness come a sigh and a smokeless flame.

خَلائِقُهُ وَالفِعلُ وَالوَجهُ وَالقَفا

خَلائِقُهُ وَالفِعلُ وَالوَجهُ وَالقَفا

قَبائِحُ سوءٍ كُلُّها وَغِلاظُ

قَبائِحُ سوءٍ كُلُّها وَغِلاظُ

His traits, his conduct, his face, and his nape—

All are hideous, vile, and coarse.

غُرابٌ وَلَكِن لَيسَ يَستُرُ سَوأَةً

غُرابٌ وَلَكِن لَيسَ يَستُرُ سَوأَةً

وَكَلبٌ وَلَكِن لَيسَ فيهِ حِفاظُ

وَكَلبٌ وَلَكِن لَيسَ فيهِ حِفاظُ

A raven, yet he conceals no shameful thing;

And a dog, yet there is no loyalty in him.
