وحيدا هناك على الرابية
جلستI sat أبثI confide الدجىthe darkness ماwhat بيهin me
جلست أبث الدجى ما بيه
Alone there on the hill,
Alone there on the hill
Alone over there, upon the hill,
I sat, confiding to the darkness what ails me.
I sat lamenting the gloaming within me
I sat pouring out to the darkness my ill.
أعددI count أياميmy days الذاهباتgone by
أعدد أيامي الذاهبات
فأبكيso I weep لأياميfor my days الباقيةremaining
فأبكي لأيامي الباقية
I count my days gone by,
I count my fleeting days
Counting my days that have passed away,
then weep for my remaining days.
And weep for my remaining days
And weeping for those that remain to stay.
وand جددتrenewed الحزنsorrow ليfor me دمعةa tear
و جددت الحزن لي دمعة
محيرةbewildered بينamong أهدابيةmy eyelashes
محيرة بين أهدابية
And a tear renewed my sorrow,
Grief renewed for me a tear
And a tear renewed the sorrow for me,
bewildered among my lashes.
Perplexed between my eyelids
Hesitating between my lashes, I see.
عرفتI recognized بهاthrough it قصتيmy story فيin الحياةlife
عرفت بها قصتي في الحياة
وand تضليلthe misleading of روحيmy soul وand آماليةmy hopes
و تضليل روحي و آمالية
Through it I recognized my story in life,
I knew my life's story through it
I knew through it my story in life,
and how my soul and my hopes were led astray.
And the delusion of my soul and my aspirations
And the straying of my soul and hopes in strife.
لهاit has بينbetween عينيmy eye وand بينbetween الثرىthe earth

مسيل على زجنة ذاوية
Between my eye and the earth, it has
Between my eyes and the ground it has
It has, between my eye and the dust,
a channel down a withered cheek.
A stream over a sorrowful declivity
A path upon a cheek withered by rust.
فليso I have مثلهاlike it سفرةa journey فيin غدtomorrow
فلي مثلها سفرة في غد
وand ليI have مثلهاlike it قصةa tale داميةblood-stained
و لي مثلها قصة دامية
So tomorrow I have a journey like its own,
So for me like it is a farewell tomorrow
For I have, like it, a journey tomorrow,
and a blood-stained tale like its own.
And for me like it is a woeful story
And I have, like it, a bloody tale of sorrow.

I complained to the night of life's injustice;
I complained to the night of the injustice of life, so it turned complaining of its harm to me
I complained to the night of life’s tyranny,
it replied, lamenting to me the harm she does.
It said: "I roam along, while those shining stars are my shackles"
It recoiled to complain of its harm to me.

Then it said, 'I am a captive, and those
I said: "And my soul threw away the fetters
It said: "I am a prisoner, confined,"
shining stars are my shackles.'
Cast on it by the tyrannical powers of the body"
"And those shining stars are the chains that bind."

Then I said, 'Into captivity's abasement, my soul
So the pulsations of my heart are nothing
I said: "And my soul, in the shame of its bond,"
was cast by the body's tyrannical forces.
But the echo of its cruel chains
"Was cast by the body's forces strong."

So my heart's beats are nothing but
I complained to the night of the injustice of passion
"So the beatings of my heart are but,"
the ringing of its cruel chains.'
So it sent its weeping sighs
"The clanking of chains in a cruel rut."

I complained to the night of love's injustice;
It said: "I love the daylight
I complained to the night of passion's disdain,
and it sent forth its weeping sighs.
And the dusk loves my draped edges
It sent forth its sighs, weeping in pain.

Then it said, 'I love the day,
We both seek our intimacy
It said: "I am in love with the Day,"
and he adores my tranquil fringes.
And each turns away in a different direction"
"And it adores my quiet limbs in every way."

"Yet each has dispersed to a separate sphere."

Then I said, 'In my heart, out of love for him,
My companion, how can I complain to the gloaming again
I said: "And in the heart, from its love so deep,"
are eyes that dream of the shepherdess.'
Of what I complain of now
"Are eyes that dream of the shepherdess in sleep."

فهيهات أن أشتكى ثانية
The darkness is my partner in what I lament;
And my cheeks of youth passed by me
The darkness shares in the complaints I sigh,
so far be it from me to complain again.
Wiping away my falling tears
So never again shall I raise a cry.

And the east wind passed over my cheek,
And the breeze passed gently over my cheek,
wiping away my flowing tears.
Drying the flowing tears that I speak.
