فَأَدرَكوا الأَحدَثَ وَالأَقدَما
The sons of al-Abras were your equals,
and they overtook the younger and the older alike.

إِذ قالَ عَمروٌ لِبَني مالِكٍ
لاdo not تَعجَلواhasten المِرَّةَthe cord أَنbefore تُحكَماit is made firm

like a blazing fire—or fiercer still.

By God, but for Qurzul when he escaped,
al-Akhram would have been your cheek’s resting place.
