صَبَحنا بِالبِقايِسِ رهطَ كِسرى

صَبَحنا بِالبِقايِسِ رهطَ كِسرى

صَبوحاً لَيسَ مِن خَمرِ السَوادِ

صَبوحاً لَيسَ مِن خَمرِ السَوادِ

At al-Biqayis we served Kisra's men

We arose at daybreak as companions of Kisra

a morning draught, not of al-Sawad's wine.

In the morning without any wine from Sawad

صَبَحناهُم بِكُلِّ فَتىً كَمِيٍّ

صَبَحناهُم بِكُلِّ فَتىً كَمِيٍّ

وَأَجرَدَ سابِحٍ مِن خَيلِ عادِ

وَأَجرَدَ سابِحٍ مِن خَيلِ عادِ

We gave them their morning draught with every armored youth

We arose against them with every roaring warrior

and every sleek, galloping steed from the horses of ʿAd.

And a swift barefoot rider from the horses of Aad
