وَما دَلِّ قَوما قبلنا ثَورُ حِجرِهِ

وَما دَلِّ قَوما قبلنا ثَورُ حِجرِهِ

وَدونَ الَّذي نَخشى أُباةٌ وَسامِرُ

وَدونَ الَّذي نَخشى أُباةٌ وَسامِرُ

And no bull in its enclosure had ever guided a people before us.

The rashness of a people before us misled them not,

And between us and what we fear stand defiant men and night-talkers.

Yet what we dread is headstrong foolishness and night talk.

فَلَم أَرَ يَوماً كانَ أَسنىغَنيمَةً

فَلَم أَرَ يَوماً كانَ أَسنىغَنيمَةً

وَأَعجَبَ مِنهُ وَالدُهورُ عبائِرُ

وَأَعجَبَ مِنهُ وَالدُهورُ عبائِرُ

So I have never seen a day more splendid in spoils,

I've never seen a day more profitable as booty,

Or more wondrous than it, while the ages pass.

Nor stranger than it is, while time's vicissitudes go on.
