إِذا سِرتَ في عِجلٍ فَسِر في صَحابَةٍ

إِذا سِرتَ في عِجلٍ فَسِر في صَحابَةٍ

وَكِندَةَ فَاِحذَرها حِذارَكَ لِلخَسفِ

وَكِندَةَ فَاِحذَرها حِذارَكَ لِلخَسفِ

When you travel among ʿIjl, travel with companions.

When you travel in haste, travel with companions,

And beware of Kindah as you would beware of being swallowed by the earth.

And beware of malice, beware as of a pit.

وَفي شيعَةِ الأَعمى خُناقٌ وَغيلَةٌ

وَفي شيعَةِ الأَعمى خُناقٌ وَغيلَةٌ

وَقَشبٌ وَإِعمالٌ لِجَندَلَةِ القَذفِ

وَقَشبٌ وَإِعمالٌ لِجَندَلَةِ القَذفِ

And among the blind man's followers are strangling and treacherous murder,

In the party of the blind are choking, deceit,

And poisoning, and the use of a stone for pelting.

Dry twigs, and working with the sling of casting.

وَكُلُّهُم شَرٌّ عَلى أَنَّ رَأسَهُم

وَكُلُّهُم شَرٌّ عَلى أَنَّ رَأسَهُم

حُمَيدَةُ وَالمَيلاءُ حاضِنَةُ الكِسفِ

حُمَيدَةُ وَالمَيلاءُ حاضِنَةُ الكِسفِ

And all of them are evil, though their chief

All of them are evil, though at their head

Is Ḥumaydah, and al-Maylāʾ, nursemaid of the fragments.

Are Humayda and al-Meyla, nurse of hidden evil.

مَتى كُنتُ حَيَّي بَجيلَةَ فَاِستَمِع

مَتى كُنتُ حَيَّي بَجيلَةَ فَاِستَمِع

فَإِنَّ لَها قَصفاً يَدَلُّ عَلى حَتفِ

فَإِنَّ لَها قَصفاً يَدَلُّ عَلى حَتفِ

Whenever I am among Bajīlah's two clans, listen:

Whenever you are at Bujayla, listen,

For it has a clamor that points to death.

For it has a shore that points to destruction.

إِذا اِعتَزَموا يَوماً عَلى قَتلِ زائِرٍ

إِذا اِعتَزَموا يَوماً عَلى قَتلِ زائِرٍ

تَداعَو عَلَيهِ بِالنُباحِ وِبِالعَزفِ

تَداعَو عَلَيهِ بِالنُباحِ وِبِالعَزفِ

When one day they resolve to kill a visitor,

Whenever they decide to kill a visitor

They summon one another against him with barking and music.

They call each other with barking and with whistling.
