عوجا على منزل قد هاج أحزانا

بين القوى وقرني أم حسانا

بين القوى وقرني أم حسانا

Turn aside, you two, to a dwelling that has stirred sorrows,

I bitterly complained of the house where sorrows attacked me,

Between al-Quwa and the twin peaks of Umm Hassan.

Was it between al-Quwa and the two peaks of Ohud, or was it Hassana?

أبلغ حباشة أني غير تاركه

أبلغ حباشة أني غير تاركه

حتى اذ لله اذ كان ما كانا

حتى اذ لله اذ كان ما كانا

Tell Hubasha that I will not leave him be,

Tell the Bani Habbash that I shall not leave it

Until—when, for God—when what happened had happened [wording unclear].

Until what Allah wills comes to pass

الباعث القول يسديه ويلحمه

الباعث القول يسديه ويلحمه

كالمجتدي الثكل اذ حاورت حيانا

كالمجتدي الثكل اذ حاورت حيانا

He who stirs up speech, laying its warp and weaving its weft,

Words that rouse and provoke come from one who has lost children

Is like one begging for bereavement, when you disputed with Hayyan.

When he conversed with the tribe of Hayyan

ان تدع خندف بغيا او مكاثرة

ان تدع خندف بغيا او مكاثرة

أدع القبائل من قيس وعيلانا

أدع القبائل من قيس وعيلانا

If you summon Khindif, in aggression or to outnumber us,

If Khundaf leaves out of fear or rivalry

I shall summon the tribes of Qays and Aylan.

I will summon the tribes of Qais and Ghatafan

قد نحبس الحق حتى ما يجاوزنا

قد نحبس الحق حتى ما يجاوزنا

والحق يحبسنا من حيث يلقانا

والحق يحبسنا من حيث يلقانا

We may hold justice fast, so that it goes no farther than us;

We may detain right until it gets beyond us

And justice holds us fast wherever it meets us.

And right detains us wherever it finds us

نبني لاخرنا مجداً نشيده

نبني لاخرنا مجداً نشيده

انا كذاك ورثنا المجد أولانا

انا كذاك ورثنا المجد أولانا

We build for those who follow us a glory we raise high;

We built for our heirs a glory we praise

We likewise inherited glory from our forebears.

That is how we inherited glory from our forefathers
