وَمِنْ مَلِيحِ الذَّنُوبِ إِنْ ذُكَرِتْ

وَمِنْ مَلِيحِ الذَّنُوبِ إِنْ ذُكَرِتْ

لَثْمِيَ فَاهُ وَرَشْفُ رِيقَتِهِ

لَثْمِيَ فَاهُ وَرَشْفُ رِيقَتِهِ

And among the delightful sins, if they are mentioned,

When the sweet sins, if mentioned,

are my kissing his mouth and sipping his saliva,

Are my kisses and sips of his saliva

فِي ثَوْبِ لَيْلٍ أَبْلَيْتُ جِدَّتَهُ

فِي ثَوْبِ لَيْلٍ أَبْلَيْتُ جِدَّتَهُ

وَجادَ لِي سَيْرُهُ بِزَوْرَتِهِ

وَجادَ لِي سَيْرُهُ بِزَوْرَتِهِ

in a robe of night whose newness I wore out,

In the dress of a night whose virginity I took

and its passing generously brought me his visit.

And his company freely gave with its secrets

فَصِرْتُ بِالَّليْلِ ذَا مَؤَانَسَةٍ

فَصِرْتُ بِالَّليْلِ ذَا مَؤَانَسَةٍ

أَشْكُرُ مَا عِشْتُ فَضْلَ نِعْمَتِهِ

أَشْكُرُ مَا عِشْتُ فَضْلَ نِعْمَتِهِ

So I found companionship in the night;

So I became, by night, one who finds companionship

I thank it, as long as I live, for its bountiful favor.

I thank what I lived for the grace of His bounty

وَأَعْطَتِ الرَّاحُ ما أُؤَمِّلَهُ

وَأَعْطَتِ الرَّاحُ ما أُؤَمِّلَهُ

قُوَّةُ حُكْمِي وَضَعْفُ قُدْرَتِهِ

قُوَّةُ حُكْمِي وَضَعْفُ قُدْرَتِهِ

And wine gave me what I hoped for:

And relaxation gave what I wished for

strength in my authority and weakness in his power.

The strength of my will and the weakness of his power

شُكْرِيَ وَقْفٌ عَلَى الْمُدامَة إِذْ

شُكْرِيَ وَقْفٌ عَلَى الْمُدامَة إِذْ

ذَلَّلَتِ الصَّعْبَ لِي بِسَكْرَتِهِ

ذَلَّلَتِ الصَّعْبَ لِي بِسَكْرَتِهِ

My thanks are reserved for wine, since

My gratitude is for the wine when

it tamed the stubborn one for me through his drunkenness.

It gentled the difficult for me with its intoxication
