أُحِبُّكِI love you ياO ظَلومُẒalūm فَأَنتِfor you are عِنديto me
أُحِبُّكِ يا ظَلومُ فَأَنتِ عِندي
مَكانَthe place of الروحِthe soul مِنin جَسَدِthe body of الجَبانِthe coward
مَكانَ الروحِ مِن جَسَدِ الجَبانِ
I love you, O Ẓalūm, for to me you hold
I love you, O cruel one, for to me you are
the place of the soul in a coward’s body.
The place of the soul in the coward's body;
وَلَوand if أَنّيthat I أَقولُsay مَكانَthe place of روحيmy soul
وَلَو أَنّي أَقولُ مَكانَ روحي
خَشيتُI would fear عَلَيكِfor you بادِرَةَthe sudden onset of الطِعانِspear combat
خَشيتُ عَلَيكِ بادِرَةَ الطِعانِ
And were I to say you held the place of my own soul,
And if I say you are the place of my soul,
I would fear for you the sudden onslaught of spears.
I fear the stab of reproach for you.
