وَيَمنَعَناand protects us مِنfrom كُلِّevery ثَغرٍvulnerable pass نَخافُهُwe fear it
أَقَبُّhollow-flanked كَسَرحانِlike a wolf الأَباءَةِthe reed thicket ضامِرُlean
And protecting us from every pass we fear
is a hollow-flanked steed, lean as a wolf of the reed thicket,
وَكُلُّand every سَبوحٍswimming-gaited steed فيin الغُبارِthe dust كَأَنَّهas though it were

and every steed swimming through the dust, as though it were
a broad-winged eagle, wings half-folded, after bathing in water.
