فَإِمّا تَرَيني واحِداً بادَ أَهلُهُ

فَإِمّا تَرَيني واحِداً بادَ أَهلُهُ

تَوارَثُهُ مِل أَقرَبينَ الأَباعِدُ

تَوارَثُهُ مِل أَقرَبينَ الأَباعِدُ

So if you see me a lone man whose kin have perished,

Whether you see me as one whose kith and kin

Whom distant kin have inherited [from] nearer kin,

Have all departed, so I’m left alone;

فَإِنَّ تَميماً قَبلَ أَن يَلدَ الحَصى

فَإِنَّ تَميماً قَبلَ أَن يَلدَ الحَصى

أَقامَ زَماناً وَهوَ في الناسِ واحِدُ

أَقامَ زَماناً وَهوَ في الناسِ واحِدُ

Then Tamim, before he begot the pebbles,

Or know that Tamim, before stones were born,

Lived for a time as a lone man among the people.

Once lived an age as just a single soul.
