فَقُلتُ لِشَوّالٍ تَوَقَّ ذُبابَهُ

فَقُلتُ لِشَوّالٍ تَوَقَّ ذُبابَهُ

وَلا تَحمِ أَنفاً أَن يَخيمَ مُرَقَّعُ

وَلا تَحمِ أَنفاً أَن يَخيمَ مُرَقَّعُ

So I said to Shawwāl, “Beware his sword’s point,

So I said to Shawwal, restrain your flies

and do not stand on pride if Muraqqaʿ loses courage.”

And don't sniff lest patched clothes pitch their tents
