أَلا هَل أَتى بِنتَ الثُوَيرِ مَغارُنا

أَلا هَل أَتى بِنتَ الثُوَيرِ مَغارُنا

عَلى حَيِّ كَلبٍ وَالضُحى لَم تَرَحَّلِ

عَلى حَيِّ كَلبٍ وَالضُحى لَم تَرَحَّلِ

Ah, has word of our raid reached the daughter of al-Thuwayr—

Alas! Has the daughter of Thawir come to our abode

against the clan of Kalb, before the forenoon had passed?

On a lively tribe, while the morning has not departed?

صَبَحناهُمُ مِنّا فَوارِسَ نَجدَةٍ

صَبَحناهُمُ مِنّا فَوارِسَ نَجدَةٍ

وَشَهباءَ تُردي بِالسِهَامِ المُثَمَّلِ

وَشَهباءَ تُردي بِالسِهَامِ المُثَمَّلِ

We attacked them at dawn with valiant horsemen of ours

We met them at dawn with horsemen of Najd

and a gray host, dealing death with poisoned arrows.

And arrows directed by Shahba, fully equipped.

تَرَكناهُمُ صَرعى لَدى كُلِّ مَزحَفٍ

تَرَكناهُمُ صَرعى لَدى كُلِّ مَزحَفٍ

تَجُرُّهُمُ عُرجُ الضِباعِ بِمَحفَلِ

تَجُرُّهُمُ عُرجُ الضِباعِ بِمَحفَلِ

We left them slain on every battlefield,

We left them lying dead at every battlefield

dragged away by limping hyenas in a throng.

As they are dragged by hyenas to their gathering place.
