يُهَجِّنُ سَلمانُ بنتَ البَعي

يُهَجِّنُ سَلمانُ بنتَ البَعي

ثِ جهلاً لسلمان بالكامِلَه

ثِ جهلاً لسلمان بالكامِلَه

Salman disparages the daughter of al-Baʿī-

Salman's folly makes the simple girl go mad

th, out of Salman's ignorance of the perfect woman.

Out of ignorance for Salman and his perfection

فإِن كان أبصَرَ منّي بها

فإِن كان أبصَرَ منّي بها

فَأُمّيَ لا أُمُّهُ هابِلَه

فَأُمّيَ لا أُمُّهُ هابِلَه

But if he is more discerning about her than I am,

If he saw more in her than I could see

then may my mother, not his, be bereaved.

Then my mother, not hers, was the fool
