Indeed, my soul is certain of the Prophet,

though I have not seen the Prophet with my own eyes.

Master of all the worlds, and nearest of them

to God, when his rank became manifest.

He came to us with the divine law from God,

and in it he was trustworthy and aided.

    Wisdom after wisdom, and radiance—

so by its light we were guided out of our blindness.

And we saw the path when we saw

it afresh, in our reluctance and our willingness.

And we worshipped God in truth, though we had been

    worshipping idols out of ignorance.

And through him we united, though we had been enemies,

and through him we returned together as brothers.

So upon him be greetings and peace from us,

wherever we may be in the lands, and wherever he may be.

Though we have not seen the Prophet, we

have indeed followed his path in faith.

And we grieved that we had not seen

him—for our grief has made our breasts sore.

Had I seen the Prophet, I would have spared myself reproach

by aiding him when he sought help,

on the day of Uhud or the morning of Hunayn,

the day Hawazin drove Ghatafan forward.

And he would see goodness in Zubayd,

and sword-blows and spear-thrusts in his defense.

And you would see me shielding him, untroubled

by blows of swords and ash-wood spears in his cause.

I would surely have shielded the Prophet with my own life,

and would have grappled with opponents in his defense.

And he would pray over me, a living martyr,

and I would drench the spearhead in gore.
