Do you not end up, when your lineage is traced,

Are you not annoyed when you are likened

between al-Mugharah and al-Ahmaq?

To the idiot and the cave?

فكم قَطَّ سيفيَ من قَونَسٍ

فكم قَطَّ سيفيَ من قَونَسٍ

غَداةَ التقينا ومن مَفرِقِ

غَداةَ التقينا ومن مَفرِقِ

For how many helmet-crests my sword has cut through,

How often has my sword severed the necks

the morning we met—and how many crowns of heads!

Of foes, the morn we met in combat.
