أَيّامَ شُهلَتِنا مِنَ الشَهرِ
Winter was struck from behind by seven dusky days—
Winter was clothed in seven days of dust
our old woman's days of the month.
Our joys of the month passed in gloom
فَإِذاso when اِنقَضَتended أَيّامُهاher days وَمَضَتand passed

So when her days have ended and passed—
Then when its days had vanished and gone
Sinn and Sinnabr, together with Wabr,
Firewood and pine logs with the rain

and with Amir and his brother Mu'tamir,
And commands to obey and comply
and Mu'allil, and with Mutfi' al-Jamr, the Ember-Quencher—
Excuses and dying embers’ glow

winter has departed, turning its back in flight,
Winter has fled in defeat and haste
and a blaze of scorching heat has come upon you.
As spring comes to you from blossoms born
