أَبيmy father الذيwho أَخنَبَcrippled رِجلَthe leg of اِبنِson of الصَعِقal-Ṣaʿiq
أَبي الذي أَخنَبَ رِجلَ اِبنِ الصَعِق
إِذwhen كانَتِwere الخَيلُthe horses كَعِلباءِlike the sinew of العُنُقthe neck
إِذ كانَتِ الخَيلُ كَعِلباءِ العُنُق
My father is the one who crippled the leg of Ibn al-Ṣaʿiq,
My father who broke the leg of the thunderbolt's son
When the horses were like the sinew of the neck,
When the horses were like the long-necked does
وَلَمand not يَكُنwas يَرُدُهُturning him back الجِبسُthe coward الحَمِقthe foolish
وَلَم يَكُن يَرُدُهُ الجِبسُ الحَمِق
And the foolish coward did not turn him back.
And the foolish plaster could not mend it
