لَتَسأَلَنَّwill surely ask أَسماءُAsma وَهيَand she is حَفِيَّةٌeager to inquire
نُصَحائَهاher trusted advisers أَطُرِدتُwas I driven off? أَمor لَمnot أُطرَدِI was driven off
Asma will surely ask, eager to know,
Asma will certainly ask while she is lithe,
her trusted advisers whether I was driven off or not.
Her advisors, was I banished or not banished?
قالواthey said لَهاto her إِنّاindeed we طَرَدناwe drove off خَيلَهُhis horses
قُلحَyellow-toothed الكِلابِthe dogs وَكُنتُand I was غَيرَnot مُطَرَّدِdriven off
They told her, "We drove off his horses."
They will say to her, we banished his horses,
Yellow-toothed dogs! Yet I was not driven off.
The mangy dogs, and you were not banished.
فَلَأَبغِيَنَّكُمُso I shall surely seek you out المَلاal-Mala وَعَوارِضاًand Awarid
وَلَأورِدَنَّand I shall surely lead الخَيلَthe horses لابَةَthe lava field of ضَرغَدِDarghad
So I shall surely seek you out at al-Mala and Awarid,
So I will seek you for booty and forays,
and surely lead the horses into Darghad's lava field.
And I will lead the horses to soft meadows.
وَالخَيلُand the horses تَرديgallop بِالكُماةِbearing armored warriors كَأَنَّهاas though they were
حِدَأٌkites تَتابَعُfollow one another فيalong الطَريقِthe road الأَقصَدِmost direct
And the horses gallop bearing armored warriors, as though they were
And the horses prance with vigor as though they were
kites following one another along the most direct road.
Snakes lined up on the most direct road.
فَلَأَثأَرَنَّso I shall surely take vengeance بِمالِكٍfor Malik وَبِمالِكٍand for Malik
وَأَخيand the companion of المَروراةِthe wilderness الَّذيwho لَمnot يوسَدِwas laid on a pillow
So I shall surely avenge Malik and Malik,
So I will take vengeance for Malik and for Malik
and the wilderness's companion, who was laid on no pillow.
And for my brother Al-Marwazi who was not supported.
وَقَتيلِand the man slain by مُرَّةَMurra أَثأَرَنَّI shall surely avenge فَإِنَّهُfor he is
فَرعٌa noble scion وَإِنَّand indeed أَخاهُمُtheir brother لَمnot يُقصَدِwas struck down
And the man slain by Murra I shall surely avenge, for he is
And for the slain man of Murrah I will take vengeance, for he
a noble scion, and their brother has not been struck down.
Is a branch, even though their brother was not intended.

O Asma, sister of Banu Fazara, I am
O Asma, sister of the clan of Fazarah, I
a raider, and no man is immortal.
Am setting out, and man is not immortal.

Come to your senses, for there is no truce between us
Come back to me, for there shall be no truce between us
after the horsemen lay dead at the ambush site,
After the horsemen when they lodged at the watchtower,

except through every coal-black, powerfully built steed, swimming in its gallop,
Except with every pregnant mountain goat and
and a second draught from every brown, warding spear.
Young calf of every tawny sheep.
وَأَناand I am اِبنُa son of حَربٍwar لاnot أَزالُI cease أَشُبُّهاI kindle it

And I am a son of war; I never cease to kindle it
And I am the son of Harb, I do not cease to kindle it,
to a blaze, and I light it when it is unlit.
The blaze, and I ignite it when it is not kindled.
