Ah, many a rival have I left felled to the ground,

Lavish in bounty, chief of a mighty tribe.

And I left his women in anguished grief,

Lamenting him at evening with loud wailing.

I have quenched my burning anger upon the clan of ʿAbs,

And won every spoil, none of it scant.

And al-Agharr, the white-blazed steed, bore Antarah clear of death,

Rushing in haste, as a falcon swoops.

And you left ʿAblah on the open plain for young warriors,

Who spent the night upon the shoulders of ranging steeds.

They carried off Hind and al-Wajihah by force,

On the day of battle, upon fine-bred, trotting camels.
